If you don’t know, it might be you

Go ahead and admit you are a fan of Jake Sullivan. Europe isn't buying the threats any longer
2/3 of the Ukraine First crowd in this thread have found their scapegoat. Yes Sullivan is a pos. An Obama holdover. But is he President/VP? If he makes all of the decisions that proves my point. Why doesn't Biden/Harris overrule his shitty policies? 90% of the Ukraine Firsters will bitch about Sullivan but defend the shitty Biden/Harris administration and support those two fools. Who has to approve Sullivan's policies? That damn Harris is so stupid and incompetent she won't even grant a live interview by herself. All she does is try and hide.
Talk about a bunch of hypocrites.

Talking from both sides of their mouths is just par for the course. Putin is both an inept dumb pussy and the greatest threat to global security since Hitler

I want your definition, not mine

It's really disgusting as hell. I don't get it. Some of these fools in this thread as just as bad as what they call MAGA cultists. They are just the other side of the coin.

I will give you mine.
There are some in this thread that care a hell of alot more about Ukraine's border or European borders than they do their own country's border/sovereignty. It boils down to a creepy obsession with these people.
That is sad as hell.

This, with the caveat that there are 2-3 who are also so emotional about the issue because of personal connections that they are incapable or logic or reason, and seemingly have no limits as to how far they will go in their support.

Where is the line for you?
At what point does it go from “fricking with one of our primary geopolitical foes because they’re shitheads” to “Ukraine first”?

If that's your definition of "mattering to American interests" then almost every country in the world matters. And if everything is important, nothing is.
Let's look at two things. First, the US Strategic Petroleum Reserve which was built to store two grades of crude oil for WWII crude oil refineries with distribution network we haven't had over a decade. It was built to replace crude oil that was being imported from the Middle East. Today only a few refineries can receive crude oil from it. It became more about keeping a world balance a longtime ago. We presently have way more than we actually need to keep refineries running at full tilt without imports from the Middle East. I'm sure you bitched and moaned when sales of it went overseas to keep global prices down. Zero effect on the US PERIOD.
Most of the tight shale oil production from the Permian Basin is being shipped overseas. This only keeps world prices of oil from soaring. Very lttle direct impact on refining here in the USA, and the price at the pump here other than world prices.
Both of these examples had a direct impact on world markets which had an indirect impact on prices here. Same goes for Ukraine. It's mineral resources have an impact on global markets, thus an indirect impact on prices in the USA. Titanium ore, nickel ore, iron ore, grain, and seed oil for starters impact global prices. If/when developed, the tight shale formations will definitely impact European markets directly with abundant natural gas and crude oil. Imagine the price of natural gas in the USA if exports aren't going to Europe.
Heck, I didn't even mention the lithium deposits which could impact OMLandshark's meds.

I hope Ukraine wins.
But I also believe that:
1.Biden/Harris Ukraine policy is a disaster. And I hold those two accountable.
2. Ukraine is corrupt as hell. How much has been stolen?
3. Putin is a murderous bastard
4. Our border/sovereignty must come first.
5. I am tired of footing the bill for a bunch of damn welching Europeans that cherish their social welfare while the American taxpayer defends them.

Sure, agree on all 4
Edit to your edit on 5: mostly agree but I understand why we do it. Just wish we’d get more out of the arrangement than we do.

The problem there is your logic seems to be that those resources will be off the market if Russia controls them… except Russia has always traded natural resources with everyone. Their largest export partner is China because they are one of the only large counties who will buy their manufactured crap, but there is no reason to think they will shut the west out of those natural resources.
And even if they do decide to heavily skew trade of those resources with China, it’s a global market so prices likely wouldn’t be impacted all that much. Wherever China is getting those resources currently would find new markets.

I defer to your expertise on the strategic importance or lack thereof. However, I bitched and moaned at 3 things
1) It was a political stunt that has been used again and again to sway low information public about the impact it would have on pricing
2) We sold it low and bought it high, which did impact the taxpayers who owned the asset, and it was mismanaged by politicians for their own image
3) When it could have been filled at some of the cheapest price levels during Trump's term, it was prevented by political grandstanding.
It's just another day in D.C. of politicians working to make themselves look good, regardless of the cost to the taxpayer.

Not at all, Russian technology is incapable of developing some of them, neither is Chinese technology. Also, withholding them as a weapon or using them to fund a war machine like it has (thankfully corruption got much if not most of that money) does in fact impact trade with Europe as a whole.

Russia is part of OPEC. They are not capitalist, they aren’t free traders, and you need to realize they are rivals of ours and will stick it to us at every opportunity.

BTW, Russia played Enron games with Europe on outages to cause price spikes in 2020 and 2021.
In FACT, the market price for natural gas in Europe was higher in 2021 than it is today.
If you don't think that Russia has played a part in the anti "Tar Sands" and anti "Fracking" campaigns in the US and Europe, I have a snow ski resort in Key West you can buy for a pittance.

Then you agree with me
Ukraine itself doesn't matter. The resources that they currently control matter, but Ukraine itself not controlling them doesn't really change much.
