I doubt that in February of 22 Putin believed his navy would have been totally embarrassed, Crimeans would be rationing electricity, he’d have hundreds of thousand casualties and he’d be begging N Korea for help after he gained only four or five per cent more of Ukraine.

I’d bet if Putin were given a do over he would take it. He made a huge mistake.

How good are T54 tanks?
Almost all remaining in storage are parked in a manner so close that you cannot even walk between them, so pretty much scrap with maybe a spare part or two from each in storage.

Rallies started in Krasnodar (russia) due to massive blackouts of electricity and water — security forces are already detaining people.

Since July 17, the "emergency restriction of electricity" schedule has been in effect in the city. At first it was introduced for two days, but then it was extended.

The entire south of the russian federation is suffering from an energy collapse caused by technical problems at the Rostov NPP. At the station itself, the problem is explained by "abnormal heat".

At night, Kyiv was attacked by an unknown type of UAV. Its speed is similar to that of a Shahed 136

It flew at an altitude of 20-30 meters. This is why it was not detected by radars. Experts are studying the debris.

Protesters Detained in Krasnodar, Russia Amid Power Outage Demonstrations

Media reports indicate that several protesters in Krasnodar were detained by police shortly after Mayor Evgeniy Naumov appeared at the rally. Residents continue to demand the restoration of electricity, as power outages have affected large portions of the city.

The city administration reported power outages on 81 streets due to accidents, though this number is believed to be lower than the actual figure.

In response to protests, utility workers restored power to Solovyova Local History Street, where residents had blocked the road earlier in the day. Mayor Naumov joined the residents in the rain until electricity was restored. Despite this, several protesters were detained by the police, according to media reports.

Biden's adviser comments on Ukraine's strikes on Russia

US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said the US is continually assessing Ukraine's needs and adjusting its assistance accordingly. As the war in Ukraine evolves, so do the capabilities and parameters of U.S. assistance.

"So I can't give a definitive answer to that question about the future," Sullivan said at the annual Security Forum in Colorado.

Interesting how short sighted the Hungarians are. Orban blocked nearly every EU decision to help Ukraine and now the Hungarians are screaming bloody murder because Ukraine has blocked oil supplies to Hungary.

Perhaps Orban should have thought of that before all his work trying to undermine Ukraine’s sovereignty and independence on behalf of Putin. Under Orbán, disputes with the EU over corruption or democratic values [and the chicken-shite insistance on Hungarian language schools built in Ukraine...] have led to a stand-off that now threatens Budapest with financial penalties running to billions of euros, while Orbán has also been one of the EU leaders closest to Russian president Vladimir Putin.

quote:

But Péter Szijjártó, Hungary’s foreign minister, said his government’s reluctance to sanction Russian oil with an embargo was “not a matter of a lack of political will or timing. “It is the simple geographical, physical, infrastructural reality . . .

quote:

Hungary’s energy supplies are secure at the moment, but this sanctions package would completely ruin that security,” said Szijjártó.

quote:

As a reminder - when the EU decided on Russian embargoes and the price cap - special TEMPORARY dispensation was given to Hungary and others, to allow them time to source and negotiate alternative suppliers.

The countries have abused the temporary dispensation, and have instead doubled down on their commitments and trade with Russia in oil and gas, funding the genocidal regime.

It’s FAFO time now , they will pay the price for not disengaging in supporting the Russian regime.

Exactly what I've been saying for months. Orban's offshore account must have been getting fat. It's not just the last few years but more than 10 years he has blocked pipelines to the Adriatc for alternate sources

Trump's Ukraine Dilemma
While Trump's only comments on the Ukraine war is 'I'll end it day one,' there is perhaps a little more nuance involved. This is not about 'never ending wars.' It's about ending wars on terms favoring friends and painful to our adversaries.

1. Trump's 1st Admin was the first to send Ukraine lethal aid. He was convinced Ukraine's defense of Crimea, Luhansk and Donetsk against Russia as an aggressor was warranted.

2. Like or hate him, Trump's word is his bond. He's promised Ukraine support. If he turns his back on Ukraine, he'll be no better than Biden for abandoning a friend after originally committing resources. Dems will have a field day with that.

3. NATO members are legitimately fearful or Russia, and they are legal allies. They have invested (more than the US). Personally, I like Trump's play on NATO forcing them to grow defense power. That, however, will take time. To just walk away from NATO now undermines his long term strategic play for NATO. Thus, quick, heavy, and strong support for Ukraine now is critical to win the war... decisively.

Interesting that it was Trump's signature that two nations joined NATO, Montenegro in 2017 and North Macedonia in 2020. He's not anti-NATO. He's anti Freeloaders

He called out nations that weren’t paying their fair share. Now most NATO nations are belatedly taking his advice although late.

Just like he called out Germany for having only Russia as a source for natural gas. they didn't even have another for a bargaining chip, much less national security.

That was that dimwit East German communist Merkel's policy. That and sold out/bought and paid for German politicians like Schroeder.

She thought that she could change Russia and bring them into the fold through trade.

Just like some of our idiots that thought we would change Communist China through trade. That has worked out well. All they did was to sell out their own country and it's people for greed and profit. They have created a much more dangerous enemy than the Soviets were. They have given them something the Soviets never had: massive economic power.

The only way that you are ever going to change those two countries would be a thorough structural teardown like Germany and Japan went through after WWII. I am not advocating for that, but that is what it would take.

These type people are either naive/stupid as hell or they are making bank off of these policies.

LOL

Key Takeaways:

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky spoke with former US President and Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump on July 19 and discussed an end-state to the war in Ukraine.

Ukrainian drones struck a Russian airfield in Rostov Oblast on the night of July 19 to 20.

Russian Minister of Defense Andrei Belousov and the Russian Ministry of Defense (MoD) continue to use meetings with Kremlin-affiliated milbloggers to attempt to rehabilitate the MoD's image among pro-war Russian ultranationalists and portray Belousov as an effective manager of the MoD.

Russian authorities are likely trying to strengthen coercive measures aimed at impressing migrants facing deportation into military service.

Spanish authorities arrested three individuals accused of conducting cyberattacks as part of a prominent pro-Russian hacking group that consistently targets Ukraine and NATO states supporting Ukraine.

Russian forces recently advanced near Vovchansk, Svatove, and Donetsk City.

Kremlin-affiliated business-focused outlet Kommersant reported on July 19 that low quality machine parts grounded five Russian Ministry of Defense (MoD) Il-76MD-90A transport aircraft.
