ATACMS are being retired but they are still highly effective.

The Army has a new long-range missile at its disposal that can hit targets more than 100 miles farther away than its predecessor could.

Key Takeaways:

The Kremlin is pursuing a concerted effort to remove senior Russian defense officials and has likely expanded this effort to senior officers commanding Russian combat operations in Ukraine.

Russian border guards removed buoys in Estonian waters of the Narva River, which demarcates the Estonian-Russian international border, likely to set conditions to further question maritime borders and test NATO resolve.

Select US officials are reportedly pressing for a reconsideration of the White House's current policy prohibiting Ukraine from using US-provided weapons to strike within Russia.

Polish Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Pawel Wronski stated on May 23 that Poland is considering using its air defense to protect Ukrainian airspace against Russian strikes.

Ukraine’s Main Military Intelligence Directorate (GUR) conducted a series of drone strikes against Russian defense industrial facilities in the Republic of Tatarstan on May 23.

Iranian leaders have used the occasion of President Ebrahim Raisi's funeral events to emphasize close ties with Armenia even as tensions between Yerevan and Moscow continue to increase.

Ukrainian forces advanced near Lukyantsi and Kreminna, and Russian forces advanced near Berestove, Chasiv Yar, Avdiivka, Donetsk City, and Velyka Novosilka.

The Russian Ministry of Defense (MoD) proposed applying regular military punishments to volunteers, likely as part of the MoD's continued formalization efforts.

Stalin did something very similar not long before Hitler invaded. He sacked his officer corp removing experienced military leadership from the front. He was fearful of his best officers.

Soviet troops were strictly ordered not to provoke the Germans. Millions were captured or killed when Hitler invaded because they had no orders or plans. When the invasion began, Stalin told the troops to open secure safes for orders. A piece of paper had "Attack" written on it.

Looks like Putin doesn't trust his military leadership. Guess that's why the Wagner Group started to march to Moscow. Lots bubbling under the surface on Putin's adventure.

No, they’re nothing but Nazis in the Azov Regiment. Yall are cheering on literal Nazis.

Ukrainians suffered so much under Stalin that the Nazis looked like liberators. Had Hitler been smarter, he would have been an anti-communist and a liberator, but he really just wanted the land for Germans.

Well yeah, but that was 80 years ago at this point.

I'm an old guy so 80 years ago in family history is still within living memory. My grand parents were in their prime during the Great Depression and my father was was a kid to a young man. I know a lot of family stories from the Great Depression. My grand father worked for the rail road and my grand mother was a teacher plus they had a 50 acre farm which provide food for them and less fortunate relatives.

Ukrainians have those memories too, but they were of mass murder and imposed famine that killed millions. They won't forget or forgive.

This a YouTube of a Chinese PLA soldier who was fighting for Russia talking about his experiences there. It's kind of grim, but he is talking freely.

The Communist's and the Nazis were like two horns on the same totalitarian goat. The difference is that the the Nazis had a far more successful economy.

That Azov is Nazi, you are constantly tea bagged by nutbags and LOVE it.

Should we show you Nazi symbols used by Russians even today?

Go back to you poorly educated trailer park

Sigh. We've done the Azov stuff a couple of times already. But for any new refugees from the Poliboard who are genuinely concerned that we are supporting Nazis, I would recommend this article on Azov by Vladislav Davidzon, a Jew who was born in what is now Uzbekistan because Stalin forced his grandparents to leave Ukraine. Davidzon grew up in the US and later married a Ukrainian woman from Odessa.

LINK

quote:

As innumerable critics with limited understanding of Ukrainian politics never tire of pointing out, the founder of Azov, Andriy Biletsky, is indeed a figure who holds racist and white supremacist views. Early Azov was home to all sorts of freakish characters, and Biletsky certainly sought and maintained relationships with neo-Nazi groups throughout Russia and Europe.
quote:

The influence of Biletsky dissipated as soon as he left Azov in October 2014; his later attempts to create a parallel movement, the “National Corps,” were the result of his de jure exclusion from the military and his declining influence. The confederation of right-wing political parties that he corralled into a common platform during the 2019 elections failed to win more than 2% of the national vote, while the Jewish presidential candidate, Volodymyr Zelensky, won with 73%. The original, post-Maidan composition of Azov was quickly diluted, and the ghost of Biletsky was replaced with regular officers of the Interior Ministry. By 2017, the battalion as a whole remained distinguished—but for its martial prowess, not for some distinct political ideology.
quote:

A Swedish sniper who had served in the battalion once told me that his experience in the unit, which included service alongside ethnic Greek, Turkish, Georgian, and Azerbaijani soldiers, transformed him from a white racist into a conservative nationalist—progress! A Donbas-born Jewish political consultant with whom I regularly drink in Kyiv remains a proud Azov reserve officer.
quote:

If Azov began in 2014-15 by drawing in volunteers attracted to its ideology or reputation for fierce fighting ability, it now depends for recruits on allocations by the Interior Ministry, which tightly oversees its promotions and officer commissions.

When people say that Azov today is racist or Nazi because of its history, they demonstrate ignorance at best and malignant, insane Putinism at worst. It's as stupid as someone saying that the US South today supports segregation.

Russians evacuate soldiers from Dzhankoi and restore airfields deep in Crimea

Anastasia Protz — Friday, 24 May 2024, 11:56

Partisans of the Crimean underground resistance movement Atesh reported on 24 May that the Russians have begun evacuating part of their personnel from the city of Dzhankoi and restoring airfields in the depths of temporarily occupied Crimea.

Source: Atesh on Telegram

Details: Members of the movement from various units of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation report that Russian troops have begun evacuating some of their personnel from Dzhankoi. At the same time, the Russians have actively started to reconstruct and, likely, to upgrade airfields deep in Crimea’s territory. This concerns the Kirovske airfield near Feodosiia and the Baherove airfield not far from Kerch.

Quote: "However, despite all their efforts, they will be unable to build enclosed shelters for their aircraft anytime soon. The reason lies in the complex technological processes, the high cost of construction, and the significant time required.

The actions of the occupiers indicate a desire to disperse their troops and equipment in Crimea in anticipation of new successful attacks by Ukraine’s Defence Forces."

British Defence Intelligence
INTELLIGENCE UPDATE
UPDATE ON UKRAINE 24 May 2024

Over the past week, Russia has deployed units from the Russian MOD's Africa Corps alongside regular Russian forces and Storm-Z units during their offensive on Vovchansk, northern Kharkiv.

The Russian MOD's Africa Corps, which emerged in December 2023, consists of more than 2,000 regular soldiers and officers, as well as experienced mercenaries, many of whom previously served in the Wagner Group. Africa Corps detachments have highly likely previously deployed to Syria, Libya, Burkina Faso and Niger.

The Russian MOD almost certainly redeployed detachments from the Africa Corps to the Ukrainian border during April 2024 in preparation for this offensive. It is highly likely that Russia is reinforcing its war on Ukraine with resources previously assigned to Africa.

This Russian S-400 battery is getting completely wiped out by ATACMS missiles. You can see the cluster ammunition covering the area. The loaded S-400 missiles almost immediately catch fire and explode in their distinctive fashion.
