Several Russian sources are highlighting a dangerous situation that is developing on the "island(s)" of the Dnieper river, where recon companies of the Russian 205th Brigade are ordered forward without any artillery support, resulting in their destruction by Ukrainians.

Out of ammo or artillery moved to the east?

Probably moved to the east. There are confirmed reports on X (aka twitter) that Russia is redeploying forces from the Donetsk oblast to the Zap oblast. It would make sense for them to redeploy forces in the Zap oblast itself.

My guess would be that the artillery unit that was supposed to protect that attack got blown up by Ukrainian counter-battery fire.

Still waiting on more concrete news of yesterday's big attack.

So far, I see one random Ukrainian account saying that they have achieved a breakthrough, and Big Serge saying that Russian defenses remain intact.

I think that it's clear that fighting is still ongoing.

from Ukrainska Pravda ...

Ukraine hits Russia's Black Sea Fleet Guards Brigade in occupied Crimea
Ukrainska Pravda — Friday, 25 August 2023, 19:40

The Defence Intelligence of Ukraine (DIU) has reported that Ukrainian forces attacked the 126th Separate Guards Coastal Defence Brigade of the Russian Black Sea Fleet on 25 August.

Source: LIGA.net Ukrainian news outlet citing Andrii Yusov, representative of the DIU

Details: The intelligence officer said the brigade was attacked in the village of Perevalne in temporarily occupied Crimea.

Quote: "We can confirm the information; there was a hit. This is not the first attack on the 126th Brigade. As [Chief of the DIU] Major General Kyrylo Budanov said in his last interview, Ukraine can now strike and conduct operations anywhere in occupied Crimea. There will also be plenty of news there shortly."

Details: Yusov noted that there are no photos or videos of the attack, and the fact that this information became public from Russian media may serve as a confirmation.

There are currently reports of killed and wounded Russian soldiers, but the information needs to be clarified, Yusov said.

The Crimean Wind Telegram channel reported a strike on the 126th Brigade of the Russian Federation around 10:00.

A channel reader claimed that three were killed and "lots'' wounded, brought to the Simferopol hospital on Horkyi Street.

Perevalne is located in the Simferopol district of Crimea. The distance from it to the nearest Ukrainian-controlled territories on Dnipro River's right bank is about 275 km, and over 300 km to the left bank.

Hearing rumors that Russian forces are falling back and retreating from Novoprovokika (oe however the f**k it’s spelled).

Also based on video Bayraktar has reentered the chat.

Evidence coming out that it was indeed a missile or two that took down Prigozhin's plane as it had shrapnel holes evident in video of the remains.

I do not know how accurate this source is but ...

quote:

BREAKING ??????
Russians desperately trying to defend the last line of defense at Solodka Balka
It's the last barrier protecting tokmak.
More than 120 Ukrainian tanks involved.
LINK

Looks like it is a pretty big operation.

quote:

On the southern front, Ukrainian military forces scored decisive victories on two key axes, announced the General Staff’s spokesperson.

“In the sectors from Novodanilivka to Novoprokopivka and from Mala Tokmachka to Ocheretuvate, our forces not only made significant advancements but are now solidifying their hold on the newly captured territories.”
LINK

Ukrainian General Staff is saying that they have made significant advances but does not define what significant advances.

quote:

Just a map indication of events along T0408 road leading to Melitopol. Heavy counter battery fireon both sides. Russians desperatly trying to secured last defensive line before Tokmak in Solodka Balka area Novoprokopivka liberated Ilchenkove contested

LINK

I sent out a bunch of messages to my contacts in Ukraine last night. A UAF nurse that I know and works in a aid station for one of the units in the advance messaged back saying that there was heavy fighting overnight and into the morning; rumors of Russians retreating in some parts of the front, Russians are leaving their wounded behind; a lot of wounded on both sides; and UAF forces advancing cautiously due to fear of mines; his unit lost an armored ambulance due to a mine on the outskirts of Novoprokopivka but he did not specify what part of the outskirts. Not much to go on but hey its something from the front.

ETA: It seems like Novoprokopivka is either liberated or contested with Ukrainian forces advancing. Looks like the UAF had a very productive independence day yesterday.

But to have all these big players on one plane and it crash killing them all just be a big coincidence……

Don't remember the source, but I read somewhere they were lured to Moscow under the pretense that all was forgiven and they were going to meet about the future direction of Wagner.

I have a Russian coworker who actually flies an Embraer jet in Moscow for rich Russians. A couple of months ago he was telling me how hard it was to get parts to keep the airplane airworthy because of the sanctions. It’s possible that the plane simply crashed due to poor maintenance. It’s more likely that Putin killed him but it’s not out of the real of possibly that the plane simply crashed. Also if occurs to me that I should check up on Aleskey.

Well, just to follow the bouncing ball, how many Embraer jets have crashed in the last year?

Then to narrow it down more, how many have crashed with the architect of an ill fated coup aboard?

There’s your answer.

Oh look more organic fertilizer from our newest Kremlin dick rider. That Russian counterattack was repelled hours ago. Even the Russian milbloggers on TG are admitting it.

I heard that the Pentagon had ruled out surface to air missles.

This is a link to Warthog Defense that purports to show shrapnel damage to the aircraft's remains. No idea how credible they are, but they do have 600k followers. They also that they have some eye witness accounts.

Criticizing Serge when you've been posting progress updates from accounts with like 150 followers is comical, I thought Ukraine was in Solodka Balka? You also claimed Bakhmut was nearly surrounded a few days ago and didn't respond when asked for a source.

This would corroborate that: LINK

"Juice" was a patriot to the bitter end. We had many talks about the war, and how desperately Ukraine needed F16s.

He fought as a pilot to the bitter end.

Following size isn't indicative of reliability though as there are examples across the size spectrum of both reliable and unreliable sources.

There are plenty of smaller sized ones more focused on specific areas of the conflict and due to this have far better reliability than some of the big aggregators who trip over themselves trying to stay ahead of the news.

Comparatively there are some bigger ones who do a pretty good job of reporting both sides against plenty of small throw away accounts used purely to drive false information supporting one side or another.

I would argue that there is a definite trend for larger, more successful sources as having built their followings by being more biased one way or another but that is about it.

Looks like the FSB paused the polonium in Girkin's tea in prison. His wife posts on his Telegram channel:

quote:

According to the information received from the lawyer Koroleva, who visited her husband yesterday, Igor Ivanovich feels better, a doctor was allowed to see him and now he is under his supervision. Personal belongings from the warehouse were also given away. Hope all of this is true.

I ask everyone who supports my husband and worries about him to pray for Igor, his health and speedy release.

I express my gratitude to all those who supported my informational messages about Strelkov's health problems, it helped a lot.

Any updates on this reported breakthrough by the Ukrainians? This could be first development that can actually have a strategic impact on the war in quite some time.
