I don’t think the situations are very similar at all. I seriously doubt Europe is going to contribute much of anything.
The West, in this sense, also includes several Pacific nations, like Australia, South Korea and Japan. Each of which has seen renewed investment in their military, with SK finding purchasers of their military equipment in Poland. China's antagonistic Australia policy has backfired spectacularly, where instead of crippling the Australian economy, and thus changing defense policy, which instead saw a reorientation of that policy to be even more antagonistic. The AUKUS Pact is also part of that reorientation.
Providing material support is well within the capacity of the Europeans too, and they have plenty of reason to side with the US in any potential conflict.

Russian thinking is not like that in the West. Trying to use logic applied to western thought to determine their moves is self defeating.

The difficulty in understanding the Russian is that we do not take cognizance of the fact that he is not a European but an Asiatic and therefore thinks deviously. We can no more understand a Russian than a Chinaman or a Japanese and, from what I’ve seen of them, I have no particular desire to understand them except to ascertain how much lead or iron it takes to kill them. In addition to his other amiable characteristics, the Russian has no regard for human life and is an all out son of a bitch, a barbarian, and a chronic drunk.

What is the deal with you trying so hard to be a contrarian on everything in this thread?
Posted on 6/12/23 at 10:30 am to notiger1997
Why can’t ppl debate or have a different opinion? This is America, while you demand freedom in Ukraine it can certainly be upheld here in a free speech country. I don’t get that in this thread

Ukraine does not have free speech in real life.

How much you reckon Raytheon/FedGov would have spent on R&D for the patriot to intercept hypersonic missiles, absent live-fire real-world testing in Ukraine?

We do. That’s my point. Let others debate in here as long as it isn’t off topic.

The guy is a contrarian, a devil’s advocate, but he serves a good purpose. He sparks debate, a back and forth because he had sone intelligent things to say.
I think he backs down when he says what he wants to say unlike the trolls we frequently see here.
I have no problem with him either.

What? This makes no sense. There has been plenty of good debate, but if you have an idiotic opinion that isn't well-supported, you will be made fun of, which is the other side of having free speech. No one is impeding you from participating in this thread regardless of your opinion. Drive-by posters definitely get ridiculed, as they should, as they are the ones who aren't interested in debate.
Overall, this thread is a great source of information because of the variety of sources that are posted. You won't get that type of news aggregation in any other media source.

Ppl don’t like me here either. I’ll still debate basic ideas.

I welcome the debates and think GT is a good poster. Just always seems to want to counterpoint EVERYTHING.

The ones that draw my ire are the trolls and bots who come in and out of here.
I welcome anyone with intelligent observations or good information.

Now that the Russians are "advancing" toward Russia they will be back with the nuclear war concern.
Posted on 6/12/23 at 11:13 am to Lakeboy7
I would like to clarify that I in no way think the “nuke you lar” prospects should influence our courses of action.
Posted on 6/12/23 at 11:16 am to momentoftruth87
As long as one stays on topic, which is the war and not politics and takes the political side to the right board I personally don't care.

Got you man. I'm talking about the ones that predict nuclear war when the Russians are doing poorly. The same group will work in a "humanity" angle when the Russians arent doing well.

It is interesting to think about. WWII basically saw the end of three empires:
1. The UK
2. Germany
3. Japan
None of those three have harbored any aspirations of territorial expansion or global dominion since, and have instead become economic super powers with the regional influence that comes with that.
Respectfully, I cannot agree on this point. The UK was an empire, and it lost massive amounts of territory (see India). The German empire ended after WWI. Japan's empire was created during WWII and it was short lived. So, the UK was the only empire that ended after WWII.

That's your opinion. I have followed this thread daily and I will post every now and then, usually on historical aspects of the region, nations, etc... I try to be respectful. If I somehow offended you in some way, sorry.
