Something is happening in Belgorod this morning but I’m unclear as to what occurred.

Two "Russian freedom groups" based in Ukraine, the Russian Volunteer Corps and the Free Russia Legion, took the Russian border post at Kozinka, claim to have "liberated" the town from Putin, and are attacking neighboring cities. This is NNE of the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv.

These groups of "Russians" somehow have at least one tank and other armored vehicles. Russian helicopters are in the area, and fighting is ongoing.

Note that all of this was done in the daylight with multiple videos released -- for maximum propaganda effect.

Ukrainians are gleeful about the raid. The obvious goal is to force Russia to deploy more forces to protect its border regions with Ukraine, which will leave fewer available reserves to deploy to defend against the upcoming Ukrainian offensive.

Many Ukrainians are also talking about the fact that this region, including the city of Belgorod, was part of the Ukrainian People's Republic in 1918, until the Bolsheviks eventually defeated the White Russians.

Pic of "Belgorod, Ukraine":

Lots of jokes about a "referendum" to establish a Belgorod People's Republic now, just as Russia did with Donetsk and Luhansk.

How did these people obtain a tank and APCs? Not mad about it, but it is very interesting.

t Updates: Russia-Ukraine Conflict by rhar61What's the latest on getting anywhere near a complete accounting of where our money went?

Two things:

One, from time to time GOP has provided us to links of how much has been donated.

Two, you do understand that when it’s reported that X million has been donated it’s not all cash. It’s weapons, ammunition, weapon systems, etc. that are transferred from our storage facilities to Ukraine.

They are functionally part of the Ukrainian military, and these are Ukrainian military vehicles. However, Ukraine is stressing that 100% of the men in today's raid into Russia are Russian citizens, so this is technically not a Ukrainian invasion of Russia.

The one thing I have noticed over the last 10 years is that when Republicans are in the minority, they bitch and whine about finances. However, as soon as they take control of the House, Senate, Executive, or all of the above, the fiscal conservatives disappear from the conversation.

Milquetoast Republicans who prefer their wealth to true prosperity. Close all bases abroad, protect our borders and I am happier.

Ukraine learned in WW2 that the Nazis were not their friend. They're learning this about the USA right now.

You obviously want another Great Depression. The American economy depends on the security provided by the US military.

If our economy depends on the might of an 800 Billion dollar army to succeed, we've already fricked it up beyond repair

So your point is we need to bully the world, if we don't you will lose your cushy life.

You could move to one of those stable countries that exist under the protection of a "bully" country.

Do you understand the relative safety and stability the world has experienced since the end of the Second World War?

Maybe the world would be just as well off if China was calling the shots geopolitically?… bc that’s exactly what you’d be doing if we ‘closed all foreign bases’.

Isolationism won’t work in a global economy.

Protect our borders, enforce the laws that are on the books, and let in aliens who have demonstrated skills and good citizenship.

We aren’t doing that.
