Slick move. I had wondered if Russia claim new territory from Ukraine if that wouldn’t violate their position and/or require new request to join UN. Seems like a pretty bad loophole if it’s not in place.

If they actually, full disclosure not even sure if “legally” possible, use that argument to remove Russia from the UN and by extension the UN Security Council I can’t imagine there not being a very unsavory response form Putin. That undoes any sense of security he has completely.

[Chris Koettl, Visual Investigation Journalist, NY Times] Russian convoy heading towards #Kyiv is now stretched out over at least 17 miles, w breaks in between. 2-3 rows deep in some areas. 20miles north of Antonov Airport. Unclear if it will head straight for the city or join forces w other troops first.

WP can also legally be used to destroy equipment. So technically you could drop it on a dude carrying a machine gun and say you were just trying to mess up his gun. It’s virtually impossible to break the Geneva convention with WP.

No his argument isn’t about claiming new territory but back to the disintegration of the Soviet Union which created Russia as a stand-alone nation. He’s making the argument they were accepted without the required formal vote & application, which undoes Russia’s presence in the UN and most importantly the Security council, which they have veto powers in, completely.

Had Ukraine lost any tanks or vehicles at all? Because all I’ve seen on the tv and internet are blown up Russian stuff. According to the news the only thing that the Russians have destroyed are a couple of orphanages and the largest airplane in the world sitting in a hanger somewhere.
