Maybe someone could even take one for the team and argue that it isn't a proxy war to make him feel better.

I mean, this didn't start as a proxy war. It started as a Russian invasion of a neighboring country. No one gave anything to Ukraine in the runup to the war except the US and the UK. The week before the war, Germany wouldn't even let the UK fly its plane of NLAWs over their airspace on its way to Kyiv.

No, it was just Putin trying to put the USSR back together by conquering a weaker neighbor -- Ukraine was no one's proxy. But Ukraine fought back, and fought back well. And Russia made incredible mistakes and showed remarkable weaknesses.

So, as Ukraine proved responsible with Western donations, and as they used them to inflict incredible damage on the Russian military, the US and NATO increasingly invested in Ukraine's defense.

So, of course it's a proxy war now, but it didn't start as one. And that's what so many Putin apologists are trying to do with that conversation. They are trying to argue that NATO used Ukraine to start a war with Russia "fight to the last Ukrainian," etc. That argument is absurd, as every serious report indicates that the US did everything in its power to prevent the Russian invasion.

But yes, now NATO countries are giving Ukraine equipment (mostly old equipment), and they are using that stuff to destroy Russia's military. In the next week, visually documented Russian equipment losses will surpass 10,000.

Based on the limited NATO investment in Ukraine, that's an incredible value. I don't see how any logical cost/benefit analysis could conclude anything other than that NATO is thus winning its proxy war.

The success that Ukraine demonstrated in the fall with the Kharkiv and Kherson offensives is why NATO has made such a much larger investment in the last few months. In a month, we will see if that investment pays off, and then NATO countries can decide whether to make another one.

We should have already moved 100s of ours into Poland and the other Adjoining NATO countries. We can play the MADD game too

I don’t think most people realize that most of the great historical Russians warriors of history were In fact Ukrainian. The Cossacks etc . Many of them are direct descendants of the Vikings from their expansion into Russia through the river systems of Europe.

Or how much they really really hate the Russians for the shite Stalin did to them after WW2. I think they will damn near fight to the last man. Their courage and skill as warriors is what has turned this into a proxy war as they have shown that they are more than capable partners. They have earned a Nato membership with blood and courage

The Operations Room

Ahh, thank you.

I recently watched their Gulf War series and didn't even think to check out the rest of the channel. Just watched the first 2 parts of the Battle of the Bulge and it's really good. Really in depth.

Today in the turret toss championship (elite division):

One of the few tosses in the history of the league to get straight 10s from all the judges in the style category.

Yes. It appears that was on 11/15. And the last update on the OP was 11/15 so looks like it was before it was confirmed to be a Ukrainian S300 that Miss fired.

Makes senses we need to get the OP to change the first post to:

This describes what I see on Twitter as well:
quote:

On the one hand, we hear reports that the situation around Bakhmut has stabilised and that Russian offensive there has culminated. But, at a tactical level, Russians continue to make incremental gains, UA forces are hard pressed to respond, casualties mount. One of the narratives is not fully correct.

Here's @War_Mapper, who has reported no change in Bakhmut for days:
quote:

A close-up map of the approximate situation around the city of Bakhmut.

RU have taken control of an apartment complex in the city's southwest.
You can see it (the little lightest pink area) south of the 0504 road, in the far SW of the actual city:

So, that would validate the first view -- that there almost no changes in Bakhmut, that Ukraine has stabilized the situation, and that the Russian offensive is culminating.

On the other hand, you have pro-Russian accounts such as @Suriyakmaps:
quote:

Situation north of Bakhmut city: Clashes between #RussianArmy and #UkrainianArmy are slowly moving to positions south of AZOM industrial complex.
quote:

Situation south of Bakhmut city:
#RussianArmy took full control over Budenivka district and made new advances in Samolet district taking control over Donelektrosetstroy adjacent to Avangard Stadium; and new positions within the market area.

As I quoted at the beginning: "One of the narratives is not fully correct." Who is right? We'll find out.

It was a relatively warm winter with less snow that usual, and the weather this month has been much drier than normal, so the mud is not as bad now as it was last year.

But there is a cold front coming through Monday and Tuesday that will bring some rain, though, especially in the north. The Kreminna area will then get even more rain later in the week, but the south won't get much rain at all.

On Twitter, I recommend following former USAF meteorologist David Helms to get regular forecasts of how weather will impact the war.

So the money is accounted for? The government knows exactly what my big purchases are - it's required for me to pay my taxes so I can fund a war. Why can't we ask the government to be held to the same standards?

You guys are quite delusional. Russia has been there for a year, all the weapons the entire western world could muster has not driven them back, yet Russia is losing while they sit firmly in their liberated land

If the US invaded Mexico and couldn’t drive much farther than Tijuana, the U.S. would be seen as losing no matter how many 2nd and 3rd tier mostly expiring weapons Russia was sending to Mexico.

Thanks!

I have an uncle who was an AF meteorologist during Vietnam. He got stationed in Australia, after he volunteered for remove recon. All the rest of his class got sent to Vietnam. We think that they thought he was crazy. lol
