I think they just believed too much in a passive peace, which is naive (AGAIN), and of course we were constantly there and were entrenched. We gave them no incentive otherwise. Germany for one clearly believed economic entanglement would solidify peace.
I suppose they worried that a post dissolution Russia may react very poorly to a European re-armament (Germany, Poland, etc). Of course Germany partly then and now still lives afraid of its own shadow. Don’t know how history may have been different if this approach had been taken with incremental pull back of American presence to offset. You’d think that would have been the course, but it didn’t happen.

Clownshoes, this is not a nationality test you think it is. I wrestled folk-style since 4th grade. Placed in districs, regions and states. Went to Tom Brands camp in Chattanooga in the summers in the early 2000s, which frankly were more of boot camps.You probably don't know who Tom Brand or Cael Sanderson or Bo Nickal. Who gives a shite if you watch football. I like combat sports.

I think your priors about the probability that x Russophile showing up in this setting is a foreign troll are a little higher than mine are at this point and I have taken your approach in the past. Foreign trolls are real, but there are many more Americans getting pilled in various "free-speech" fora that move into less radicalized communities and engage in participatory propaganda with various degrees of motivation to pill normies than there are foreign trolls. He's probably an American with highly authoritarian political preferences, and we should definitely out call inauthentic online behaviors and ban likely foreign trolls, but in some ways it doesn't matter where he's from in the sense that if they're an American trojan-horsing Russian prop it effects the community similarly and there's a lot of overlap in treatment they receive.
