Japan hosted its first international fleet review for seven years on Sunday (Nov 6) with ships from 12 other nations in a show of unity as North Korea fires record numbers of missiles and China increases its pressure on Taiwan.
The naval parade in Sagami Bay near Tokyo involved 38 vessels, 18 from friendly countries such as the United States, South Korea, Britain, Australia, Singapore, India and Thailand. Thirty-three aircraft flew overhead, including submarine-hunting patrol planes and helicopters.
"We must ready for those who violate rules and who would use force to trample on the peace and security of other nations," Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said in a speech on the Japanese helicopter carrier Izumo.
"We will formulate a new national security strategy by year end and drastically strengthen our defence capabilities."

"What upsets China most is we have allies, they are expansive and extensive," Emanuel said after accompanying Kishida on a tour of the Ronald Reagan.
Kishida's Liberal Democratic Party has pledged to double Japan's defence budget to around 2per cent of gross domestic product within five years. South Korea's decision to join Japan's event came as ties between the neighbours improve after a spat over compensation for wartime labourers and Korean women forced to work in Japanese military brothels, which had threatened to derail closer cooperation between the two U.S. allies.
Japan refused to join South Korea's fleet review in 2018 after Seoul asked it not to fly its rising sun ensign, which South Korea views as a symbol of Japanese wartime aggression. Tokyo declined to invite South Korea to a planned 2019 review.
Both countries have drawn closer as North Korea ratchets up its missile launches, including a suspected long-range missile on Thursday that triggered an alert in central and northern Japan for residents to seek shelter.
China, which has criticised Japan's defence spending plans, declined an invitation to join the review. Russia was not invited because of its invasion

The doubling of defense spending plus newfound cooperation with SK is quite interesting and welcomed IMO.

Our boy Solovyov giving the NATO is evil, good will triumph over evil speech to a bunch of high school? students. I wonder if he called his son in college over in the UK and gave him the same one.
He is giving the speech in a designer quasi-military "uniform" I am sure you can guess how much time he served.

British Defence Intelligence
UPDATE ON UKRAINE 7 November 2022
INTELLIGENCE UPDATE
On 03 November 2022, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valeriy Zaluzhnyi, stated that Russia had lost over twice the number of aircraft in Ukraine than in the Soviet-Afghan War. This amounts to 278 aircraft lost in Ukraine compared to 119 in Afghanistan.
Whilst we cannot independently verify these figures, Russia's continued lack of air superiority is likely exacerbated by poor training, loss of experienced crews, and heightened risks of conducting close air support in dense air defence zones.
This is unlikely to change in the next few months. Russia's aircraft losses likely significantly outstrip their capacity to manufacture new airframes. The time required for the training of competent pilots further reduces Russia's ability to regenerate combat air capability.

It's looking like the 2nd Battle of Kherson is imminent if it hasn't started already.

When your supply line is suspect, your leaders have hauled arse, when you’re cold and wet and getting shelled, and when you’re not fighting for anything but Putin’s ego, it’ll be tough to “hold the rope”.

Odd that anyone questioned it. The evidence was overwhelming.

I thought Turkey closed the straight to all warships unless the home base was in the Black sea

Yevgeny Prigozhin has come completely out of the shadows, has his own military, and is making declarations about issues the state publicly denies. Is Putin really not seeing what's happening?

I think they did and it looks like Russia tried anyway. Had to Google Vladivostok, it’s all the way over in the Sea of Japan near the shared border with China and NK. Long trip home

They did, but I guess the Russians figured they were gonna try anyway.
As far as Prigozhin, I get a sense from Russia watchers that Putin doesn't think he has an independent power base, but politics can shift and it's not impossible the siloviki could appropriate Prigozhin

It's his St. Petersburg troll farm and meant to cause chaos.

Him boasting about this the day before the elections, are of course, meant to cause decreased confidence in the election here as well as him signaling back to the Russian public that even as all the other state propaganda is framing the war as a fight against the west that he's been fighting the west for years. He may be angling for a political career.

The problem is worse, Putin and his generals have put those poor bastards in a situation where they have to do the impossible task of pushing the rope.

Back when their POS aircraft carrier was operational Turkey did not allow aircraft carriers to go through the Turkish straights so the Admiral Kuznetsov* identified as a cruiser with aircraft. Maybe they thought this cruiser and destroyer were identifying as a bulk carrier and a tug boat and thought that would work.
* I think that is its name now as it still sits basically abandoned. It has been named 4-5 different things since Russia stole it from Ukraine. Yes, you read that right Russia has been thieving on Ukraine right from the moment of independence.
