The Cruz thing was bad optics, but please explain in detail why he should have stayed? Can bullets and bravery stop an ice storm?

Much of the armor that's been showed destroyed are T80s, indicating these are Army Guards armor detachments, which makes sense, as these seem to be spearheaded attacks using the highest quality of Russian units, mixed with follow on fodder.
