quote:Obviously not. We’ll arm what’s left of Ukraine to the teeth and the UN might send some sort of “peacekeeping force” to monitor the new border. It’ll be gangbusters for defense contractors.
And then everything will just go back to the way it was before right?

quote:Sounds pretty easy. How does that work? Is Russia left better off than before the invasion?
They'll take their advances in the South and East and eventually end the war.
quote:how do they just call it a day? Will it be considered a good day? Will Russia and Russians be better off than before the invasion?
I still believe Russia will take everything East of the Dnipre and call it a day.
You call that winning?

Shocking!
Your understanding is child like as that was never implied.

Russia doesn’t look at this through same lens we do. That’s a mistake most people make. Regardless, it’s certainly not a win for Ukraine.

I’m talking about with Russia. You really think they’re just gonna call it a day, after taking the eastern and southern regions of Ukraine? That their economy will be booming because of this “win”, that the Russian people will be happy that Russia “won”? Russia fricked up so much by simply deciding to invade Ukraine.

So to recap Ukraine has lost land. Lost half it's troops and the majority of it's top commanders and don't forget they have lost an estimated 70% of the weapons sent to them

They lose millions of people, gain billions of dollars...
In the long run, it may be. I think Zelensky is as much a fundraiser as anything else. We've already sent them a third of their annual GDP.

Yeah because I don’t think they’ll really have the ability to do anything else.
quote:I mean probably not but it’s not like their economy has ever been “booming.” They’ll have quite a bit more natural resources at least.
That their economy will be booming because of this “win”, that the Russian people will be happy that Russia “won”?
quote:Okay, kind of irrelevant now isn’t it?
Russia fricked up so much by simply deciding to invade Ukraine.

quote:so you are going to dodge the question with this vague bullshite?
Russia doesn’t look at this through same lens we do. That’s a mistake most people make.
quote:It’s hard to really define, but in calculating whether Ukraine claims any victory at the end of this conflict the foremost consideration must be that it was without choice in entering the conflict and its extermination as an independent sovereign was the goal.
Regardless, it’s certainly not a win for Ukraine.

its extermination as an independent sovereign was the goal.
That has never been a stated goal. I don’t know where that idea even comes from.

Same place as the rest of the war myths, I imagine.

Did Putin not compare himself to Czar Peter returning land to it’s rightful owner and say it was now his/Russias responsibility to do the same?
Did Putin not say the sovereignty of Ukraine was only possible in partnership with Russia and state that Ukrainians were one with Russians?

I’m sure Russia would have been fine with taking Kyiv and turning Ukraine into a proxy vassal state. That’s not the same as extinction. In any case it doesn’t really matter in regards to my prediction,
Which is that Russia takes the eastern half of Ukraine and stops.

They’re not going to stop. What do you think his reasons for invading Ukraine were?

Ukranian GDP runs from 130B to 200B (last year) and we've given about 55 billion in aid.
Which is more than we spent in the first 5 years of Afghanistan.
