Bombing a school? Really? Sorry, didn’t bomb a school in Iraq but you follow your orders from the chain of command and complete the mission given to you. Doesn’t make me a warmonger and neither does it for wanting Putin gone. He chose this road not us. Sorry you seem to have your panties in a wad.

quote:The problem with this argument is they’re a major nuclear power that control much of the world’s wheat and oil supply, and you basically refuse to acknowledge the potential downside of prodding this bear with a stick. The world produced 760 million metric tonnes of wheat in 2020. Russia produced around 11 percent and Ukraine produced around 3 percent. Their increase in wheat production seems to be correlated to sanctions, as before sanctions, they produced around 5 percent. Is there some other way they control much of the world's wheat supply? China and India control far more, accounting for 31% of the total supply. I don't know much about wheat markets, but I'm starting to suspect you don't either. I don't know where you are getting the wheat numbers from. I don't think your oil supply numbers are right either, which isn't to say that Russian actions can't affect the price, of course.
All you have to do is look at wheat futures for fall deliveries. They’re at the lowest they’ve been since before war began and are in line with bushel prices for the last few years. The idea that there will be massive global food shortages because of this war is dumb as frick. The people whose lives depend on accurately forecasting such things (major ag players such as ADM, Bunge, Cargill, Dreyfus, etc. along with huge commodity trading funds) believe that grain is going to be about in line price wise and volume size with what’s it’s been on recent history for fall delivery; but hormonal, period-based, irrational people like OML know better than they do. That’s definitely the ticket.
Relying on commodities for the bulk of one’s economy is as stupid as it gets. You need value added industries in the modern world like tech, software, professional services, finance, entertainment, etc. to dominate the modern geopolitical sphere. A tiny anemic economy like Russia will suffer. Venezuelan-like capital controls to maintain the appearance of a strong currency don’t really mean anything especially when your economy is going to contract by almost double digits.

quote:Thanks, this is really significant news. First, I believe the headline is confused when it states it took place in Iran. As you know, the attack was in Syria, on the Al-Mazzah military airbase outside of Damascus. The Sayeda Zeinab area is also outside of Damascus. Here's another report of the same attack.
Israel Launches Missile Strike On Drone Production In Iran - Media
But it's clear that these were Iranian drones intended for shipment to Russia. The Russians would ship them themselves from Syria, as soon as they were assembled and the Iranian lie about not shipping weapons to Russia would remain within plausible deniability. To their way of thinking anyway.
quote:You can guess the nationality of those 'three foreigners'...
According to the monitoring group The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), the strike killed three Syrian soldiers, three foreigners and two representatives of the Lebanese Hezbollah.
Two items of good news here - so much for the Israelis staying neutral and secondly, one more major headache for the animal in the Kremlin.

Head of the Chechen Republic Ramzan Kadyrov announced that the newly-formed Chechen “West-Akhmat” battalion will not be immediately deployed into Ukraine and will stay in Chechnya.
Since we know that whenever TikTok Kadyrov's mouth is open, he's lying, let's look at this logically.

Head of the Chechen Republic Ramzan Kadyrov announced that the newly-formed Chechen “West-Akhmat” battalion is refusing to be deployed into Ukraine and will stay in Chechnya.
Kadyrov and his harem of goats may need to rethink going back to Chechnya. Might get more than that new uniform wrinkled...

Report casting doubt on ATACMS for Ukrainequote:
National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan reiterates that POTUS has said the US will not provide Ukraine with long range missile systems that can strike as far as 300km away.
So, disappointing for now but I remember we were disappointed five weeks ago when it was announced that the UA would 'only' get four HIMAR systems. We're were told to be patient and watch what happened, and yeah... In that regard, it seems the 300km ATACMS missiles are still on the table. Plus, I doubt if this was Biden's decision. He's just going with the recommendations of the Pentagon/NATO planners. They're batting about .9999 so far, so that's an easy decision. So let's amend Sullivan's quote:

And this is what OML fails to understand. It's damn near impossible to take Russia at its word
From yesterday after the grain deal was announced
And then today
From yesterday after the grain deal was announced

In Istanbul, Sergei K. Shoigu, Russia’s defense minister, repeated Russia’s pledge not to use the process of grain exports from Ukraine to its military advantage. “We have made this commitment,” he said.
And then today

#Ukrainian MP Oleksiy Goncharenko reports that the port of #Odesa is on fire.
Details are being clarified. LINK
quote:

This was stated by the speaker of the anti-aircraft defense forces of #Ukraine Yuriy Ignat. LINK

I watched the interview where Sullivan was asked about ATACMS. I can confirm that the reply was slightly different from "will not provide". What he said was the POTUS "was not prepared to provide". That to me is not an absolute no.

They sign the agreement to allow grain exports from Ukraine and the next day hit the grain storage and loading facilities with cruise missiles. Psychopathic. That's all you can say.

British Defence Intelligence
UPDATE ON UKRAINE
23 July 2022
INTELLIGENCE UPDATE
In the last 48 hours, heavy fighting has been taking place as Ukrainian forces have continued their offensive against Russian forces in Kherson Oblast, west of the River Dnipro. Russia is likely attempting to slow the Ukrainian attack using artillery fire along the natural barrier of the Ingulets River, a tributary of the Dnipro.
Simultaneously, the supply lines of the Russian force west of the Dnipro are increasingly at risk. Additional Ukrainian strikes have caused further damage to the key Antonivsky Bridge, though Russia has conducted temporary repairs. As of 22 July 2022, it was almost certainly open to some traffic.
It has not been possible to verify claims by Ukrainian officials that Russia is preparing to construct an alternative, military pontoon bridge across the Dnipro. The Russian army prioritises maintaining its military bridging capability, but any attempt to construct a crossing of the Dnipro would be a very high risk operation. If the Dnipro crossings were denied, and Russian forces in occupied Kherson cut off, it would be a significant military and political setback for Russia.

Because I've been consistent unlike you fanboys.
My only concern is US involvement, Karen. The US media (narrative supported by govt) is an embarrassment. But you do you and go for those warm cozy feelings you get reading trash.
Post war, the narrative always changes as this one will.

Russians surrounded near Kherson
quote:
Earlier today, military expert Oleksandr Kovalenko said that near the village of Vysokopolye in the Kherson region, Russian invaders fell into a cauldron and demanded to organize a “green corridor” to get out of the encirclement of Ukrainian defenders. According to The Insider, due to the counter-offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, up to two thousand Russian soldiers were surrounded. The journalists said that three Russian battalion tactical groups, including a special forces company and a tank company, requested the “Green Corridor” to get out of the encirclement.
