Ok, what the frick are they fighting for in Ukraine? Is it just the Cold War playing out in real time with the United States and China jockeying for some oneupmanship?

That’s probably a good stopping point in my opinion. From everything I read Crimea was fairly pro-Russian pre-war, and Russia has had 8 years to build up defenses there.
To me it probably depends on performance once the 200k+ additional Ukrainian troops enter the fray. If they join the fight with continued western weapon supplies and kick arse and take names there’s no way I’d stop without completely restoring Ukrainian territory prior to 2014. The problem after that is Russia has the nukes or I’d so use their own arguments against them and start re-establishing pre-Soviet history and go beyond present northern borders into Russia and make them pay. Of course they could join the fight and it continue to be a meat grinder so just depends how it goes, to me at least. I’m not Ukrainian, but I imagine I’d want my pound of flesh and what was mine fully restored.

Poland sent a little over 200 T-72’s not just 100. It was enough to outfit two new armored brigades. On top of the tanks they already had and the ones they have captured from Russia as well as the 50 German Leopard tanks that were sent they should have enough to outfit at least an extra armored brigade on top of the 2 supplied from Poland. This is a war of artillery so 300 new tanks is a major acquisition.

Hardly, just a dumb Gump who is all for sending more money to Ukraine to weaken the Russian military.

I’d be interested to know how many Mig-29’s Ukraine had that they couldn’t fly because they needed repairs. It’s rumored that only about 60% of the aircraft Russia claims they have in their arsenal are airworthy and it could be even less than that. This is why you’re not seeing Russia achieve air dominance like everyone thought they would. They can’t afford to sustain losses to working aircraft at the rate they were with Ukraine having western air defense capabilities.

What's the time frame on this happening?
2-6 weeks. The reservists who were called up and that were trained by NATO in their basic training and saw action in the Donbas over the last 8 years have finished their refresher courses and are being introduced to their equipment or being put into units and should hit the front in the next two weeks. The other reservists have 6 weeks of training. Ukraine should have 200,000 new troops on the line by mid July though. Russia is hoping to get 40,000 by that time.

Has Ukraine done much or any attacks using planes yet? I wonder how good the Russian anti-aircraft systems are and if that is a big issue.

You’d think they would have something after $80B along with all of that aid from other countries.

They were over snake island around a week and a half ago and of course they were in the air for defense over Kyiv. Not aware of much more aside from UAVs.

I found it both amusing and concerning that you both asked a question, then answered it. Why? Why ask?

We’ve been sending pallets of cash to Ukraine for some time, what do they have for a military?
