"Hello, this is Hannah, you asked me to call you back, do you remember?" Directly aimed at old folks who may have memory issues. I refuse to believe we can't get a handle on this blight. Someone is benefitting to look the other way.

You don’t remember you called them and then what? What’s the trick?

You never called them. You say you don't remember or whatever, something and they know they have a live human on the other end and start their spiel.
Some days 50-75% of calls to our business are robocalls. We can't block unknown numbers because we get calls from all over and any of them might be legit. Our staff is instructed to just hang up but it's annoying and a time waster. To a lonely old person who's maybe hard of hearing and maybe not as sharp as they used to be, it's a lot more than annoying, it's dangerous.

Yeah my grandmother gets them constantly when I am over there. We set up the do not call list but that does not do crap. The last me that was tricky last time was someone saying she had a refund coming on her electric bill and if she wanted it push 1 on the phone. Funny thing was they got the name of her power company wrong. I assume if she had pressed 1 they would have gotten something?

The problem with the do not call list is it’s just a law. Scammers are already criminals, breaking multiple laws so the list is just another thing they ignore.

I am personally in favor of that service you can get that allows you to forward those calls to a second number that has an AI robot respond to the RoboCall.
It will make responses until the live person gets on there and then it will listen and make relevant responses and burn up their time. I have listened to some tapes where it can keep a live person on the line 10 or 15 minutes. Once they figure out you have that service, they stop calling your number.
Fight fire with fire.*
*Kicker - the people selling that service probably own the damn RoboCall service as well. Like when the company that made police radar guns also sold radar detectors in the 70's and 80's.

I love getting those bank scam group texts. There are usually some fun people bored enough to do silly shite in them. During the last one, we encouraged a thirsty couple to exchange pics and make a love connection. I like to think they're married now. Or they at least sexed.

You can put your number on the National No Call list. It significantly reduces these garbage calls

A friend thought he was intentionally wasting the time of a spammer and was answer uh and uh huh without really listening.
To his dismay he found that his vague affirmatives had been put into a "change the company I'm paying my electric bill to" to a company he'd never heard of.
He got it changed back, but it took a lot of time that he could have spent doing something or anything more pleasant.

“Oh yeah, Hannah, but I just wanted to tell you to GFY. Thanks for returning the call.”

Yes, lots of AI and ROBO calls out there. I purchased an AT&T cordless house phone to replace my 20-year-old last system a while back, and it had an option to put in family or other important numbers in, and everyone else has to press a certain button to even get through to voicemail. I'm telling you that I may only get one call every 6 months or longer now that actually gets through, and it's always simply a wrong number. This service ensures that it's only a live person that can get through. Of course cell phones are a different story.

The do not call list is for legitimate telemarketing. It has nothing to do with scammers. God this place gets more Boomer by the second.

On the iPhone there is a feature that blocks all calls except those on your Contact List or those that you have previously called.

I have been getting text messages asking if I applied for *XYZ* and to reply with yes or no. Same with emails... I don't reply because I think it's just fishing to see if it is and active cell number or email. They are pretty determined because they send multiple messages.

This is half the battle for those shite-fricks.
I have a family member who will answer the obvious bullshite calls just to mess with them. I've been trying for a while now to get him to understand that every time he answers one of those calls he just ends up getting put on a list of active numbers....which leads to even more calls. He always bitches about them, but just won't stop answering them.

They have been doing that for a long time. The other version is "I am calling you back about the quote you asked for..." then feigns the wrong number story and starts in on the sales pitch anyway.

This is a crazy report on those calls raising money for the police associations. The people are legally keeping the money and none of it goes toward the cause that they're calling about.

There are more damn associations of police and firemen than you could imagine. All seem to have different names subtly.
