However, a snapshot is a 2-D representation of a moment in time that has been interpreted and recorded leaving no interpreting for our brains to do. It is what it actually is.
I'm not sure if you have watched his interviews but Hoffman views all the reality we interpret with our senses as as essential similar to a graphic interface on a computer. An example he uses is there isnt really a recycle bin in your pc. It just a symbol that represents that function. Its kinda a clumsy analogy but you get the idea.
His Interface theory - we've evolved to see the world in a way that help survival, which is not necessarily true to reality. Further, not seeing reality as it is but in a filtered/constructed way actually helps survival is pretty fascinating.
His theory of consciousness - consciousness is fundamental. The world comes about through the interactions of conscious agents. He creates a mathematical model of conscious agents interacting and claims this can explain some QM probabilities (or some such). I dont get it. I probably am not educated enough in these fields to poo poo it though. Its great for midnight toking conversation as just speculation.

As the OP I feel entitled to ask the question, what IS reality? His answer, if you watch the video, is we don't know and can't know what is real. In other videos he alludes to us being in some kind of simulation.

Yes. It is fun to speculate about all of that.
Whenever I first learned how we actually see things in the back of our eyeball inside our head through our brains the light suddenly came on that there’s no telling what one person is seeing when they’re looking at the same object compared to what another person is seeing. We just learned to function in our own world as it relates to everyone else’s. Some people learn to operate really well and some people struggle.
Anyway, have another toke!

He's arguing the reality we perceive isnt fundamental and that there is another layer where conscious agents reside. To use the PC analogy again The icons on the desktop of a PC allow us to use the computer without being distracted by irrelevant details about its internal structure and operation. Similarly, our
perceptions allow us to act adaptively in the world while being ignorant of its true structure. Space-time is our species-specific desktop and physical objects are icons on that desktop. Space-time and physical objects are not insights into objective reality, but species-specific adaptations that allow us to survive and reproduce.. In light of the evolutionary results, He proposes that consciousness, rather than spacetime and physical objects, is fundamental.
We dont know what consciousness is nor do we really even understand conscious experiences so I just listen to his thoughts and put into the "thats interesting " file in my brain.
