Every ophthalmologist I know still wears glasses. That's a data point I can't ignore.

Recovery is like 24 hours tops, but your eyes will be gnarly bloodshot for a bit.
It's 100% worth it.

I had it done in August and it’s the best money I have ever spent!
Recovery was quick, just have to keep your eyes lubricated per the doctors instructions for 3 months

Ya. I was seeing fine the next day. Full recovery takes about a month but you won't notice you are still recovering. 100% worth it. Was $3300 total for both. Do not go to a discount place. If you are in BR, go see Dr.Pearce or Dr.Woo.

best thing ive ever done.
go see Fay Woo at EMC. literally had my surgery at 8:00am, went home and took a nap, then went to LSU baseball game that night. From our suite, I could never read the lineups that run down the side of the scoreboard. when I walked in after my surgery, the lineups were like in bold 4K text, it was unbelievable lol

I had it done 3 years ago and it still is one of the better moves I’ve made. Recovery was less than 2 days. Every time I slept and woke up, my eyes were better.
Colors were crisper and are still the same way today. Do it. No regerts.

I’ve heard some real horror stories.

One summer in law school I clerked at a firm working on a LASIK gone wrong case. There were some frightening results, but I will say the doctor being sued was doing LASIK in a mobile unit...I feel like you probably get what you pay for when you get your LASIK done by a guy in a van. The main issue was he was saying everyone was a candidate for LASIK whether their corneas were thick enough to be shaved or not, several of the patients ended up having to get corneas from cadavers

I saw this today:

I think that's really the core of it.
Seems to just be "Is it worth the risk?" Sure, some people have good results, but it seems there's at least a chance for non-reverseable bad results as well. Just depends on what that's worth to you.

Since 1998, an estimated 20 million LASIK procedures have been performed, and according to an FDA patient survey, more than 95% of patients were satisfied with their vision after surgery.
Still, the FDA's own website is filled with stories of serious complications. Patients reported "relentless eye pain," dizziness and detached retinas, and told the agency: "LASIK ended my life" and "this procedure needs to stop."
"Essentially we ignored the data on vision distortions that persisted for years," said Morris Waxler, a retired FDA adviser who voted to approve LASIK. He now says that vote was a mistake.
"I re-examined the documentation … and I said, 'Wow this is not good,'" Waxler said.
Waxler said his own analysis of industry data shows complication rates between 10 and 30%. In 2011, he petitioned the FDA to issue a voluntary recall of LASIK. Three years later, the agency denied that request and now tells CBS News it "has not found any new safety concerns associated with LASIK devices."
Waxler said he thinks LASIK should "absolutely" be taken off the market. "There's nothing wrong with a person's eyes who goes to get Lasik," he said. "They have healthy eyes. They could go and get a pair of glasses."
I think that's really the core of it.

I would do it again, but it did mess up my contrast sensitivity. My vision in dimly lit areas is worse than before. And on the other hand, I absolutely need sunglasses on a bright day or I feel blinded.

How much and does insurance cover any part of it at all?

Didn’t last
The doctor will tell you in your pre-op visit that it doesn't last forever, your eyesight can still deteriorate. I can say from experience that it is 100% worth it. Had mine done 20+ years ago, just started using very weak readers on occasion.

I paid about $3300 and no, insurance covered nothing.

had both done, other then being very sensitive to light right after trying to leave the office from the dilation, as soon as i had it done my eye sight was great.
i did have a small bit of pain when i stayed up for long hours afterwards and that lasted about 3 years. best way to describe it is if i stayed awake over 16 hours or got very little sleep for a few days, it felt like i had something in my eye like a bit of dirt that was irritating
keep in mind at around age 50 your eyes will change with age and most likely alter your vision some, possibly in some cases to the point of needing glasses again
