Younger people go to Vegas for the partying. There's as much an emphasis on nightclubs & dayclubs as there is on gambling.

Sitting down at a 25 min table with a few hundred…he won’t be there long enough to get a drink.

My thoughts are mostly there are more casinos around along with the exorbitant prices in Vegas keeping people away.

Seems like if no one was going they’d lower prices to entice more visitors

Sounds like trade shows are starting to pack up and leave there as well or at least not go every year. Chicago used to have a bad rap for their trade show business because of union but from what I’ve seen, they turned it around a little bit. Orlando is king right now. I went to a trade show in Denver and I’m surprised more aren’t going that way.

Yeah, I smoke myself but it really is out of control there. Fremont Street smells like the inside of a bong but forget you have a beer bottle in your hand when you step outside and you might get gang tackled by cops.

I went to Vegas earlier in the month. Had fun at the tables downtown $10 minimums during the day, $15 at night..except Circa which had strip minimums.

I've only been once, but I was struck just how much the entire city is a monument to over-indulgence and rampant consumerism. Even as a pretty rabid libertarian, I was moderately disturbed.

I'm a live and let live guy, but man it was bad last time I was there. And it's a bunch of ditch weed, it's straight awful smelling.

They do but it’s slower service than a New Orleans Popeyes

We were at the roulette table for awhile and never saw a cocktail waitress

1. Overall interest in gambling has dropped

I thought LV moved away from being gambling-focused to being entertainment-focused, specifically high-end experiences.

It got too expensive, less fun for normal people, and way too douche chill.

It's also built on industries that waver with the general economy more than most others, being non-essential.

Prices in LV are outrageous. If I want to go to a casino I can drive less than an hour.

Air travel is also a factor because it’s a PITA.

Vegas used to keep the Strip clear of beggars, bums and drug users. Now, it's like every other Democratic paradise. Addicts passed out and sleeping on the sidewalks and crossovers right in front of casinos. Mr and Mrs Middle America aren't going to come to such a discretionary spending destination when the locals allow such squalor. Add in all those other factors and you have a downturn.

Yeah, some sensor that will alert them if you put things in the fridge and then they’ll charge you. Bought a bottle of water downstairs and couldn’t even put it in the fridge in my own room. This was at the Wynn.

Never heard of a day club before I went a few years ago. I saw a dude waiting in line to get into one of these things with fur shorts, a vest, no shirt, and goggles at 11:00 am

Apparently that's the mini bar? and you can rent a fridge for $35/night

oh, and this:

quote:

I have learned not to touch items in the minibar or you can be charged. But now hotels are being even more sneaky…placing unstable items on top of the dresser on sensors…Water bottles, snacks, etc. No sign or any warning. If you Mistakenly knock into the dresser, or open the drawer so the items shift, a $23 charge appears on your bill.
