I wouldn't care if the situation went in the order of fix pot holes in the street THEN move statues. Fix my fricking street and then take any statue you want

A phenomenal quote from Robert E Lee:
Since we get to cherry pick, to recap:
General Lee:
Abe Lincoln:
No wonder they want Lee's statue torn down. He believed in equality, freedom, independence, and a united America for all peoples regardless of race or creed.
quote:
Is it not strange that the descendants of those Pilgrim Fathers who crossed the Atlantic to preserve their own freedom have always proved the most intolerant of the spiritual liberty of others?
Since we get to cherry pick, to recap:
General Lee:
quote:
So far from engaging in a war to perpetuate slavery, I am rejoiced that Slavery is abolished. I believe it will be greatly for the interest of the South. So fully am I satisfied of this that I would have cheerfully lost all that I have lost by the war, and have suffered all that I have suffered to have this object attained."
quote:
If it came to a conflict of arms, the war will last at least four years. Northern politicians will not appreciate the determination and pluck of the South, and Southern politicians do not appreciate the numbers, resources, and patient perseverance of the North. Both sides forget that we are all Americans. I foresee that our country will pass through a terrible ordeal, a necessary expiation, perhaps, for our national sins.
Abe Lincoln:
quote:
I will say then that I am not, nor ever have been in favor of bringing about in anyway the social and political equality of the white and black races – that I am not nor ever have been in favor of making voters or jurors of negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people; and I will say in addition to this that there is a physical difference between the white and black races which I believe will forever forbid the two races living together on terms of social and political equality. And inasmuch as they cannot so live, while they do remain together there must be the position of superior and inferior, and I as much as any other man am in favor of having the superior position assigned to the white race. I say upon this occasion I do not perceive that because the white man is to have the superior position the negro should be denied everything.”
No wonder they want Lee's statue torn down. He believed in equality, freedom, independence, and a united America for all peoples regardless of race or creed.

Exactly. Apparently two weeks ago Mitch realized it was wrong.
It's not even about the flag or statues, it's about opportunist dick wads jumping on the bandwagon claiming some moral superiority and telling everyone how the should think and behave.

I've never once in my life heard any black person upset about any of those monuments.

If you really care take a few minutes and email the city council and urge them to tell Mitch to go to hell.

Take down the statue or not the circle that separates downtown from uptown will still be referred to as Lee Circle or On The Run.

Damn I miss the New Orleans I grew up in the 80/90's.

I'm disappointed and sad to read this. I hope it costs him every future election.
What he should be doing is explaining history to those who need to be enlightened and the historical significance.
Is he going to destroy them?
How will explain leaving Jackson in Jackson Square? Will he change the names of streets?
The whole thing is incredible. And incredibly depressing.

In a city with high crime and a significant shortage of police officers, what's better than hiring 3 new cops?
Answer: Spending their salaries replacing a statue.

Landrieu can only serve 2 terms I believe. Since Mary lost her seat he will no longer try to pursue governor spot. From what I gathered from friends that work in city hall the guy Mitch will endorse is head of NORDC, Victor Richard.
I think all of us can agree that Mitch has done a lot good for the city since the storm. I'm not saying i'm for ripping down the statues at Lee Circle or Jeff Davis pkway. But in the grand scheme to get bigger and better business into the city I think it should happen.
I'll tell you this though that I worked along side many folks from NOLA who were affected by Katrina from the Dome to the convention center and from what I gathered they like to keep things traditional. Lee Circle w/o a statue or not will always be Lee Circle street car stop. From personal experience I don't think they give a flying hoot if a statue is there or not.

Businesses don't give a rats arse about a statue, they do however worry and have to bear the expense of the ridiculous crime. Do you realize that some businesses downtown hire private security to escort their workers to buildings in the morning. So instead of pissing away time and resources on some statues that's ruffling some SJW's, solve the crime issue.

I don't think that the Renaissance has breakfast buffets anymore. I would blow whomever I have to to get their scrambled egg recipe. So good.

Man you make NOLA sound like Baghdad. I live a block off Lafayette Square and at my previous job I walked to work from there for 3 years. I;ve never heard of private security escorting people to work. Do you live in Jefferson Parish and only come out to the city for events?

I think it's boxed eggs, bro. Our friends at Vic's knows the recipe.

Some of my family work downtown and that is the case. There have been more than a handful of robberies/muggings that have occurred in the morning downtown since this person has worked downtown. Even further there is a wealth of bums and panhandlers accosting folks in the morning.

Nope, spend a lot of time in the city, and this is an absolute waste of time and resources.

I feel the same for Jefferson Davis
Davis was an a-hole through and through. Pretty well documented. . .and long before the CSA was a thing.

Any downtown setting you go to there will be panhandlers hitting you up for a buck in the morning.
