Justin Lequinn Malbrough, 21, of Lake Charles, was released at 6:54 a.m. Tuesday, completing a sentence for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, simple burglary, and theft of a firearm.

Police say he then returned to Lake Charles, where is accused of shooting and killing 20-year-old Jayden Drashon Shelby, also of Lake Charles, around 12:30 a.m. at Le Jolliet Apartments on Fifth Avenue.

Lake Charles Police Department officers found Shelby with multiple gunshot wounds, according to Deputy Chief Franklin Fondel. He was pronounced dead at the scene by EMTs with Acadian Ambulance.

Was it too much to ask that they tell us how long he served in the article?

I bet all of those people in the new DR Horton homes on 5th Ave are glad to live in such a safe part of town

yeah,,, the fact that he had to have already been convicted of a felony, then got arrested again for being in possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and only being 21 doesn't really add up. Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon is a pretty serious charge.

I don't think that is the easiest information to get from DOC on short notice.

That apartment complex is apparently hell on earth.

I was reading the reviews yesterday.

Nic Hunter is running for a 3rd term for mayor in 2024. If by any chance Wilford Carter or a Latoya Cantrell or Sharon Weston Broome candidate wins I'll be looking for a new place to live.

All of the apartments on 5th Ave were shitty when I was in college 23 years ago. Nothing there has changed. New paint on the complex but same bad area. A lot of it comes from that subdivision across from Walmart. It needs to be knocked down.

If he got 5 years he's serve 1.7 years or so with good time. It can work without a juvenile felony unless he really delayed his cases.

If Carter couldn't get someone to get close, it isn't going to happen. There isn't that sort of bench in LC.
