Laid off late in year and stiffed on Christmas bonus

Spent the past roughly 7 years working at a small business that gave me annual December bonuses ranging from $5K to $8K (other employees also get bonuses). This year, however, a few key accounts bailed or cut back, including the main one I served. Laid off in October with no severance package. This December I was hoping for at least a grand or two in acknowledgment of time served. No dice: I was emailed a $200 Amazon gift card. Was I shafted? Or is this just par for the course?

You should be happy you got a $200 gift card. They really didn't have to send you anything.

While that sucks badly for you... you no longer work there, so I wouldn't have expected anything from them.

Kidnap the owner like Eddie did in the movie.

sorry you got laid off but if you were cut to save on costs, why would they give you more money randomly in december (assuming not commission based)? hell, i'd say you came out $200 to the good.

You expected a bonus from a company that laid you off 3 months ago? Obama's america I guess

Please tell me this is a joke

I would probably just be happy with the gift card. I understand being hopeful for some money after losing your job, but I wouldn't expect a bonus after being let go.

I'd be pissed for not getting severance especially after 7 years but not getting a bonus seems pretty normal since you don't work there.

It is a raw deal, but when they laid you off in October I'm sure they figured they were saving the cost of your bonus as well.

That is not how this works.

How the frick do you think they feel? You think they want to not have the money to keep employees and give good bonuses?
Check yourself.

So the main account You serviced bailed and you think you deserve a job and bonus?

Seriously not trying to be a dick, but maybe your efforts are better spent on trying to find new employment and putting your effort into that. Sorry it happened, but don't let it keep you down for a while.

Amazon sells pretty much everything. Should be able to buy a nice gift with that.

why would you expect them to give you a bonus when you no longer work there? you also weren't cutting it so they had to let you go, so why would they give you money for lack of production?

I'd be pissed for not getting severance
Severance is not a thing in most "at will" states
