yes, exactly. Her family is big on La Fonda, I probably don't dislike it as much as it seemed in my first post.. I just get bothered with having to wait on hour+ for a table on a Saturday night because it's "the place to be" when we could walk in and sit at a dozen better restaurants around town

Makes sense, I have a few friends who feel the same way. I'm not as bothered by it, because I look at dinner with friends as more of a social thing, than a food thing, and I don't mind the food all that much.

ETA: It's not like I'm forced to go to Chili's or something

It's definitely a love/hate thing, the food isn't very good but I enjoy going a couple times a year with a group of friends, getting hammered while waiting for our table, bitching about the tiny bowls of chips, and eating the same frozen chimichanga I order every time because I'm too drunk to remember to try something else.

K&B Drug Store
Mr. Cook on University Ave.
The sporting goods store on Johnston St. next to Stick's, I forget the name. Cajun/LA family name if I recall correctly?
Coin & Treasure for the baseball cards + comic books/cards.
Lafayette High vs. Acadiana High football at Cajun Field.
City League Football Turkey Bowl at Cajun Field.
Riding your bike to get ANYWHERE as a kid (practically unheard of now).

IIRC, La Fonda was traditionally closed Thanksgiving week, and the week of the 4th of July. That schedule was tweaked a bit after Leebob’s passing.

where is that compared to Wilderness Gun Club. My son used to shoot skeet out there with the 4-h program

A 1/4-mile away on the other side of the RR tracks off Lajaunie Rd. The rifle range shut down around 2003? The firing line and benches were positioned kinda where the red H is, the 20 ft. tall berms were 200 yds away above the red C. Kids playing basketball near the Good Hope Church (bottom left of pic) claimed they were struck by a stray 22LR bullet. Once that went public on the news, city politicians ordered the range shut down immediately. Back in the 70's and early 80's, the property surrounding the range was cow pastures and agricultural farm land. The rifle range became a casualty due to the city wide growth and expansion. Similar to other businesses and establishments that are no longer around today.
WGC was never effected because it's private owned land and they exclusively shoot shotguns, not centerfire weapons.

Good info. Didn’t know. I appreciate all of that.
When my son was in his young-mid teens, I got him a Walther .22 pistol and we were members of Barney’s for a while. Now, there’s an indoor range much closer to us in Maurice.

Damn, what a throwback! I saw some places where I used to DJ:

Club 410
Stan's
Mako's (the afterhours version)
The Keg (I was the resident for the short lived Shreveport version that not many know about)
Plaza
Firestone (the old Kingfish building)
Como's (Maurice)
Nitelife (Maurice)
Images (old gay bar - I used to play request night on Fridays - it is now NiteTown)
Amanda Scott's (same building as NiteTown)
The Level (afterhours)
Poets (I used to fill in for Stan Lerille)
Club X/S (which became Lipsticks)

Outer Limits (I played Raves there after the afterhours club closed)

The Kingfish (I have played a few of the reunion parties)

Record Stores:
TUNZ!!!
Raccoon Records

Burger Tyme (RIP)

Bell's Sporting Goods Downtown (I worked there for 4 years when I was going to USL)

Man, we had some good times back in the day!

Louisiana Range … very nice indoor shooting range. Took my CHL renewal class there. I live off Youngsville/Milton Hwy not far from Rouses. We gotta be close

Several other places I remember from 60s and 70s Lafayette:

Borden's near USL

Jacob's Restaurant and Toby's at four corners

Poor Boy's Riverside Inn where the Hilton was built on the Vermilion.

Sheraton Motel on Pinhook (where Paul Newman and the cast and crew stayed during filming of The Drowning Pool)

Angel's Restaurant in Carencro.

Woolco Department Store

New Flanders Road (now called Ambassador Caffery Parkway)

Fatima High School and Cathedral-Carmel High School

That wasn't Cock of the walk. Cock of the walk was on the other side of the street near where Lipsticks is/was. Catfish Shack was where Mazen is now.

Lafayette has the last Borden's Ice Cream Shoppe in America, don't know if it's the same one you're talking about.

I'm probably a lot younger than most of you. I just moved back to Lafayette after 12 years of school and working in Texas. One thing I noticed is that the strip on McKinley street is pretty much gone. The Bulldog is still popping along but where do all the students go to now?

Spent a lot of time there during the summer after my senior year of high school. I saw Liar Liar at least 3 times. I also remember when it was a respectable theater. I'm old enough to have seen a movie at The Plaza too.

It was the Center Cinema, I saw Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977), Jaws (1975), and Midway (1976) there during their initial cinema run. I think I also saw the Jungle Book there in 1967. In the 70s it was the only multi cinema (2 Screens) in Lafayette.

The Plaza was a pretty nice cinema actually. The Westwood was the nicest place in Lafayette. I'm old enough to have seen a movie at the Twin Drive In, The Nona Theater, the Pat Theater (that was actually in a Quonset Hut, and the Jefferson Street Theater (as a small child).

I see Brooks T several days each week as he owns a building next to where I work. He recently purchased some high end music equipment/speakers from a club that shut down in NY or Vegas. Haven't seen DJ's Carl D or Scott D in many moons, unless you're one of them
