I have a friend who was in that basketball game w that gangsta POS Kelly. His bodyguards beat up everyone and this person specifically. He was hospitalized several days.
He sued Kelly and the entourage and made bank.
I’d be writing R Kelly every day in jail updating him on how awesome my life is here on the outside.

We had a Sunday afternoon game at around 3 every week. Had about 15 former HS (STM, Laf High) and college players. Good competitive games. I was there practically every week but didn’t go that day.
RK was in town for a concert at the Cajun Dome. He and his entourage stopped by Reds to hoop before the concert so they rotated into the game. The story that I heard is that a guy with the initials MD was embarrassing RK…swatting his shots out of bounds, taking him strong to the goal. As this happened RK got very sassy and the bodyguards started with ridiculous hard fouls.
Your friend (CM) was sitting on the waiting bench and said something about RK needing to dial it back before somebody got hurt. Then RK and a few bodyguards surrounded him and started with the “what you say??””…somebody threw a punch and it was on. Several of RKs boys beat him bad. As the others tried to intervene it turned into a free for all melee with guests running out into the parking lot to escape.
As I recall RK and his entourage hauled arse out and fled out of Lafayette and just cancelled the show with no explanation (until later)
There were lawsuits and even criminal charges filed against RK. I was not there but talked about it for years with the other guys that were there and I believe that this is accurate

I find it hard to believe that such a fine and upstanding citizen like RK would do such a thing.

Not sure it’s been mentioned yet but Red gave all the Katrina evacuees free membership to Red’s for a while. I was in that number. Great man!

Haven't read all the posts but sounds like he still functioned well at 88. Sounds like he was doing something right compared to so many other bodybuilders that tear their bodies up/die early.
What were his secrets?

Not sure if he was full natty when competing but the drug use in his days would not be anywhere close to current day competitive bodybuilders. That and he stayed very active until the end

Sounds like the world would be better had someone beaten the actual life out of Pedo Kelly that day.

I’m not from Lafayette but remember hearing about his place when I was at LSU in the ‘80’s. Sounds like Red was a one of a kind, standup guy. RIP

He lived down the street from my grandparent for years. As big league as he was, he was always super kind to everyone he encountered.
Lafayette has lost a true giant. Modern health clubs look the way they do in large part to Mr. Red.

Lot of bodybuilders from his time actually took responsible dosages and were not on all year long.

Also remember that white Lamborghini he had in the 80s.

This aligns with everything that I know.
It sounds like we have a lot of mutual friends.
