They only behave like thugs because that aren't afforded the opportunity to buy fresh fruits and vegetables.

Anyone who has to work in or visit that area in an uncontrolled environment would be wise to carry....

My parents used to point out an area on Plank on the way to and from my grandparents’ house and talk about how that was one of the first big shopping centers in BR.

Even in the late 80s / early 90s I wondered why the frick that was as the area was already a demilitarized zone. When it went downhill, it went fast.

They also told me one day that they had originally looked at houses in Glen Oaks in the 70s before getting a different one in what is soon to be St George.

I had a friend that lived in Glen Oaks until about 1992. It was a working class neighborhood when I was a kid in the early-mid 80s.

My parents moved when a black family moved across the street. In a few weeks they had 8 homes up for sale on the street I lived on.

A few of my friends parents move to Monticello or Park Forest from the Istrouma area as homes were just being built in this area. People saw this area as a safer area than NBR.

I lived on Longfellow Drive in NBR and went to Istoruma for a few weeks before my parents moved to Red Oaks. Belaire High Area which was a brand new school was just starting to take some students from Broadmoor. Some high school kids were allowed to finish up at Broadmoor in my neighborhood. After a few weeks of attending Belaire, my father was transferred to Los Angels, CA.

I get off I-110 at Evangeline and turn onto Longfellow to go the back route to Tony’s Seafood all the time. It really a nice street with some older, larger homes in good shape and pretty well kept.
