Most physical servers are located at State Police in midtown BR.

I believe there are exceptions though.

Remember that time the state consolidated all of it's IT operations into the Office of Technology Services???

Yeah. To say that has been a failure could probably be answered by today’s results.

Now instead of requiring 20 idiots to shut down state IT, we just need 1.

No, I’m hearing they had a VPN up coming from their system into the state’s system that got compromised.

That's why we're very selective on contractors having VPN access to our network.

It's a double edge sword: The benefit is saving a shite ton of money having contractors work remotely vs paying for them to be on site. But then some shite like this happens. Ah Well.

That could explain the 40000 under votes in the governor’s race. Should I really believe that many people only voted for governor and nothing else on the ballot?

Is awfully suspicious. I'd be curious to see if there was similar runoffs where a large number of ballots only had a vote for governor and no other races, just to see if its a pattern of voters just not knowing/caring about other down ballot races or something fishy.

What I am hearing is that this is the contractor who was in charge of centralizing the state network.

Not necessarily which of their employees did it but WHY whoever did it got so much access.

The reality is that the system was likely compromised back in May, June, or July of this year and the virus touched everything. The IT folks now know that the Microsoft active directory was totally compromised with all of the employees passwords and all other sensitive data infected and stolen and they are scrambling to restore that data but as we will see their effort will be far too late considering how long this has been in their system. I suspect this will be a long & very expensive recovery process for the state.

This is likely a continuation of an attack that happened a few months ago

Yes, about that.... That was a smokescreen for JBE. The budget "shortfall" will come soon.

This is what happens when you give a state that is #49 in education access to the internet...

extort the state with a amount of a rumored $20 million dollars.

Wonder if they’d just take New Orleans instead?

This isn't entirely true. The Sec of State's office still has its own IT department. The Dept of Health and a few others outsource their IT to UNO.
