it still has to go to the full senate for vote, but yeah that one is a lock.
Decriminalization is about 95% now. It's a comprise for not passing recreational

So I can light up my roach at twin peaks now?

Comprise my arse, its nothing more than a cop out. I can legally buy all the alcohol I want but can’t legally buy a plant that anyone with an IQ over 80 can grow.

Explain it to me like I am 5:
If it is decriminalized can’t I just smoke reefer wherever and not worry about it anyway?

Not like a complete fool. Possession over a certain amount would be more than a ticket.

$100 fine for anything under a half oz if I am remembering right. Not just full decrim. Big daddy gov still wants some piece of the pie.

They get x amount of dollars per day per person in jail.
They get x amount from fine paid.
It's really not that hard to figure out. Same reason why small towns live traffic revenue

I would have preferred that they not decriminalize and focused instead on legalization. Nobody who isn’t a hood rat committing other crimes has to worry about simple possession anyway. Smoke at home or otherwise discretely and you have no issue
the problem is access.
the friend of a friend selling it to you is chancing distribution charges. The grow operation he is getting it from same. Plus you don’t know what you are getting or how it’s grown. You can grow it at home easily but again, distribution charges and it takes 8 months
compare that to a fully legal dispensary where they have multiple craft grown strains on the counter for you to choose from, and you can select a smoke for the mood or occasion just like you would a nice bottle or can.
even if you don’t smoke, the next time you are in a legal state go to a dispensary. It will blow your mind, and it’s just plain stupid that damn near half the country has come to its senses and LA is arguing simple possession still

Not to mention the potential monetary windfall of being the only fully legal southern state. I guess some legislators prefer their individual windfalls they get from the DA & Sheriff's Associations to oppose.

Its going to take the marijuana people padding the pockets of both the legislature and the sheriffs to get recreational to pass. That or federal legalization.
La politicians don't vote with anything other than their personal bank account.

I'm rooting for y'all. Hope the tax benefits aren't totally wasted by the State.

Once you can get a prescription for a bad back, it’s legal.

Yea - never is that more apparent than now. All we hear about is the overwhelming public support in favor pouring into the legislature. If support is so overwhelmingly in favor, then why isn't this an easy pass? We all know why, but it's just frustrating. At some point, you start to feel like your voice doesn't matter at all.

it’s worth noting that cannabis is fully legal in the following US cities:
NYC
Boston
Chicago
Washington DC
Denver
Las Vegas
Los Angeles
San Diego
Seattle
Phoenix
Tucson

Our voices 1000% don't matter. I remember in 2017, Senate Bill No.: 1 of Regular Session 2017 was filed by Senator Francis Thompson which was to rename LSMSA to the “Jimmy D. Long Sr. Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts."
The alumni and supporters of LSMSA bombarded the legislators in opposition of renaming the entire school and proposed, instead, that they name the soon-to-be (at the time) constructed $27M residence hall as the Jimmy D. Long Residence Hall. Which would have been very appropriate considering Jimmy Long was a huge proponent of the residential nature of LSMSA.
Regardless, the bill was pushed through, albeit watered down a bit to not affect diplomas, transcripts, logos, stationery and other items. Amendments to the bill also allowed the LSMSA's board of directors would have control on exactly how the name change is to be implemented, including signs and class rings.
Regardless of that, what I learned watching that process was: the legislators want to pat themselves on the back and don't really give two shits about overall public opinion.

If the medical portion passes it is defector legal here for citizens. The quack drs will line up to hand over mm cards to make a few dollars. The issue is that the state will miss out on tax revenue from tourists.
