I didn't see anything on HB434. What happened?

Paraphrasing minutes from committee meeting:
Both that were in front of the committee today were approved. One was for repealing the current tax stamp system intended for those claiming income from cannabis sales in order to avoid tax evasion along with other drug-related charges. The other was amendment 434 to HB699 which would mean a singular retail-level taxation model to be set forth if HB699 passes tomorrow.
Rep. Nelson and Kimberly Lewis Robinson, Secretary of Revenue, presented to the committee today.
Rep. White of St. Tammany and Washington Parish had a lot to say but most likely only to hear herself speak. Her contributions were of little substance when she did engage the conversation.
Rep. Les Farnum, of Calcasieu Parish, expressed snidely that he would not vote to pass HB 699 tomorrow.
Good to know whom you agree with or don't before the next election. He opposes the bill, strongly.
Rep. McMahen, of Bossier/Webster Parish, did not quite understand why it will be a vaulted, cash-only process verses direct through federal banking. He continued calling it "illegal drug money" to which Lewis Robinson replied, "It will be legal state tax revenue - not illegal drug money."

The decrim bill passed the house today. Something like 67-25. It's all encouraging, but I still see the Senate and/or governor torpedoing this in the end.

I am sure this will get more people off their asses to go out and get a job.

Why can't these small government, freedom loving conservatives just be for freedom?
Why do we have to get involved with legislating vaults and shite like that?

Interesting. I’m glad people will stop going to jail for pot, but decriminalization without legalizing retail sales seems like a major gift to current drug dealers in the state.

frick those two old guys

It wasn't going to pass on Monday and it won't pass tomorrow either. People are going to smoke it regardless, so all they're doing is pissing off the majority of people who want it legalized.

Typical of our the current state of the country right? The overwhelming majority holds one set of views, but a tiny minority is who actually sees results.

Checked the legis.la.gov site and it looks like HB699 (decrim) has been pushed to 5/18/21?

This white, conservative, freedom loving one is. I'm perfectly fine with legalization and my reasoning is that if hard liquor is legal then there is no reason why marijuana should not be.
I will never be convinced that a person can go buy a half gallon of liquor and drink their self to death if they were so inclined and that's legal yet if a person takes a few hits of weed they are a criminal. That's just asinine

Still desperately trying to get the votes I assume? At this rate, it's never even going to get to a vote in the House.

I believe the support in the house is there for passage of HB699.
you can email your representative this morning and let your opinion be known
passage in the senate is another matter entirely however with strong house support and a clear majority in voter opinion this is not a lost cause, this year. JBE is a tool but if this is going to happen it must happen before the end of his term. If someone like Landry replaces him there is no chance

my guess is that if this dies in the senate, the next step would be to draft and approve for a ballot a constitutional amendment
