It doesn't say 1000 permanent local jobs. Like I said, most of the work at data centers is done entirely remotely.

That would benefit the region. And long-term, it will benefit the region some. My issue is that it won't shut down tomorrow, and it won't benefit the region enough. We're way past the point of data centers being necessary infrastructure for a connected country. Our representatives are selling out our communities future for a quick buck, so the government can expand surveillance to tread on us even harder. They clear the land, poison the water, rack up your electric bills (do you actually think Meta/Entergy aren't going to pass the buck to you, just because Landry pinky swears?), but it's all good because they cut teachers a check for a couple years?

Once the construction ends in a couple years, and those people are back to poverty, what difference would it have made? When the alternative could be to establish a long-term operational tax on the facility that would support the community past tomorrow.

10 years ago we had plenty of technology. SaaS businesses existed, multigig internet was feasible in the home, cloud storage existed, useful AI existed, technology you interact with on a day-to-day basis to improve your life existed. What didn't exist were thought machines that just agree with people, and quick slop images of cats with 3 tiddies. All built on the largest financial bubble the world has ever seen; companies swapping trillions in IOUs for products that don't exist yet, all protected by the knowledge that the government will use your tax dollars to bail them out when it pops.

Yes. And it would have been posted just the same on a server in a data center years ago before we started rapidly expanding them. We need data centers. We don't need them built as quickly as we're building them or without long-term investments in the communities they're built in.

The state owned the land for 20 years. They tried to get Toyota to build a factory on it but couldn’t and then for 20 years across numerous administrations it sat there with no one being able to do anything with it until meta.

The state bought 1,400 acres from the Franklins in 2006. It was intended to be an "mega-site" to attract Toyota and other like businesses. But it was not "vacant" land, it was actively being farmed the same as it had been for 100+ years. The actual footprint of Meta is almost 4,000 acres. Which, outside of the original 1,400 acres, was all privately sold land (lots of which also sold by the Franklin family). Reading your posts makes it seem like you think Holly Ridge was a desert void of people awaiting on some major corporations to come to the rescue. It was viable farm land in an old, close knit community of people who lived there on purpose and whose lives have been shattered

Is this the data center that meta is using for the training program? The one where they pay your training, hotel, travel and pay you while you get certified in IT or fiber, or cyber and guarantee you a job after completion? Or is that a different one in LA?
