Rep Dustin Miller is the one who passed the Amendment today. For those who want to email him

imagine if republicans didn't try to legislate their morality on everyone else what this state/country could be like

The Amendment to include Video Poker outlets was introduced by Dustin Miller a Democrat from Opelousas.

This bill was SB135 to allow sports betting was brought by Danny Martiny a Republican from Metairie.

This was doomed by a Democrat carrying the water for the video poker industry. They didn't want it at all and the best way to kill it was to climb onboard.

xcept all 2800 bars and truck stops aren't gonna want to deal with that shite. what do you honestly think the number of bar owners willing to get involved in that kind of business is going to be?

Every fricking one of them and the 2800 more that open up as soon as this passes. Why would they not?

This is exactly the reason your almost dead old governor went to jail.

You really think people that are sports bettors do not have “a guy”? People that are sports bettors are not typically driving to MS just to bet on sports when they can call their “guy”. It’s too much of a hassle unless it is NCAA tourney weekend or New Years Bowl.

Exactly

However it would still be cool to go to Harrahs and hang out and bet and watch a game.

But I already do that at my house and can bet through my app and don’t have interact with people if I don’t want to.

In all likelyhood, William Hill, Fanduel, or really any outlet that does sports betting would be making deals with the bars to place a kiosk in the bar.

It would be nice to shop some lines though, especially in the futures market. Won some money betting win totals in MS last season that I would have lost had I bet with my bookie.

it's only $4m in the 50th ranked state, who cares man? there's nothing else we could use that money for.

What exactly do you think that $4m would go to that you could actually see a difference? Seriously. Do you believe you would see that go to roads? Education? It would go into the general fund and disappear.

Doesn’t surprise me at all. I didn’t even make an attempt to get my hopes up.

Other than corruption, name the one biggest group of people who hurts the state of Louisiana for $1000?

Seriously, I don't know if they are the biggest group of people who hurt this state, but they sure as hell don't help.

I wonder how many of these legislators own truckstops/places with video poker machine. Pretty sure many of these folks own nursing homes which they also regulate.

John Georges paid off representatives including Cameron Henry, who spoke out against the bill yesterday in the House, to kill the bill because he's heavily invested in video poker and the Advocate. I have other details but its dirty, dirty politics.

Henry doesn't even have a job, he's a paid consultant who's a mouthpiece for bigger figures

Here's an article on Georges from 2013 LINK

quote:

But Georges is equally powerful and successful in the video gaming industry. He is both the largest distributor and largest operator of gaming devices in the state, with nearly 1,200 machines throughout Louisiana, according to the Louisiana State Police. His companies also sell devices to casinos and truck stops all over the country.

And now he owns the Advocate and NOLA.com so he’s in a position to censor any negatively

That's a good point, if enough people learn about this, which I doubt they will, then maybe changes can be made. But right now, he's too powerful and it's likely nothing will get passed without his permission

This state really sucks sometimes. We even let Mississippi surpass us.
