You should also go to jail if a Waffle House crew is forced to attack and beat your arse

So if you attack a non-fast food worker, is it a lesser charge? Like if I crash out on my CPA or my orthopedist?

What a clown !
Just enforce the laws already on the books.Assault and battery are already crimes.
Idiots that assault fast food workers are lacking in impulse control, have anger issues,etc..
This law will make no difference

We didn’t used to need laws to protect fast food workers from their customers. It was just a basic societal expectation that you treated people with decency and respect, even if your order was wrong.

But a certain segment of the population has been coddled into believing they’re never wrong, so now we have to spell out in law what used to be common courtesy.

Just go ahead and federally codify "chimping" as being illegal and be done with it.

Well your orthopedist is a healthcare worker so of course there is a special law for that but your CPA is for game.

Do you get a lesser penalty if they were out of chicken?

I’m not really understanding the pushback on this.

Stealing a little bit is a misdemeanor; stealing more, or stealing certain things, or stealing in certain ways, is a felony.

Punching someone in the face is a misdemeanor; punching certain people, or under certain circumstances, or doing enough damage, is a felony.

Now, one can certainly argue that food/retail workers don’t deserve more protection than anyone else, but that’s a different argument than saying there shouldn’t be enhanced penalties for any offenses as a categorical.

I don’t disagree that lawmakers create enhanced penalties for certain victims or situations. That wasn’t really my point.

My point is that we used to expect people to treat fast food workers with basic decency without needing the state to spell it out for them.

The fact that we apparently need a law for that now says a lot about where the culture has drifted.

Its actually pretty sad that there are so many people who are unable to control their emotions over a fast food order that the state has to make laws in order to discourage people from attacking fast food workers.
