For a year? Nah.

No healthy person goes a year without work unless its by choice.

You're dead wrong here. The engineering sector is saturated with job seekers and as many as 60 applicants for one position is the norm.

Sure, you can get a job at Subway or Home Depot and beat unemployment but that isn't saying much.

It has nothing to do with health, it has to do with a downcycle economy, uncertainty, and a presidential administration demonizing an entire industry (oil, gas, and chemical).

They weren’t making enough with unemployment to do all that , c’mon.

You’re not thinking…..unemployment is only part of it.

A) welfare
B) enhanced SNAP
C) stimmy checks
D) child tax credit

I think I saw where a family of 4 with the enhanced unemployment and stimmy check could make nearly 100K in 2020-2021 if not more. They didn’t have to take any grocery money out of that either with the D-SNAP shite either.

It was certainly possible for the last year…..not sustainable I hope though.

Or is it your opinion that its better to be unemployed and living off the taxpayer?

Design engineers or field engineers? What discipline?

Why are y’all so excited about other people’s poverty and misery? I will never understand this. I bet you’re sure happy to get your monthly child tax credit deposits though.

My boy JBE fikin to eat Monday afternoon and swoop in like Robinhood. He will officially declare Phase Ta 3, and avail Louisiana of a reset where the federal UI kicker resets and usurps his state law on UI.

Easier said than done.

I would also say it is not a good look on your resume as a engineer to put Arby’s on there.

As far as “living off the taxpayer”, most have paid into that system their entire lives.

My point was many of you people lump all of the unemployed into the “freeloader” bucket.

Uncoincidentally, it’s the people who are fortunate enough to have not lost a dime or missed a day of work in the pandemic.

In my experience all disciplines, design and field associated with oil, gas, and chemical.

Not sure what answer you are looking for.

How old are you? 5? Are you completely oblivious to the last 18 months?

As someone who is responsible for hiring people, I’d have a hell of a lot more respect for someone with odd jobs for the last 18 months than an 18 month gap in work history.

Because they’ve had a year and a half to figure it out and contribute to the system instead of drawing out of it. they haven’t. they’ve used something that is meant to act as a safety net as a crutch. they’ve taken advantage of the tax payers.

and not that it’s any of your business, but my family is not eligible for the child tax credits. and honestly that bar is pretty low, your dual income is fairly pathetic if you qualify for it.

I see a ton of $15 - $20 an hour jobs posted everywhere, but I am not hearing of that many jobs paying $40 K and up. Not all the unemployed are restaurant & service industry workers. Just saying......

Uhhh, you do realize $20/hr is $40k/yr right? Assuming someone actually works full time.
