What is typically more important is how the word or phrase is utilized and understood by society.
You're being extremely legalistic with your interpretation.
Technically, by the definition you provided, if my dad said "UGATiger26, if you wash the dishes, I'll give you $1,000,000" and I did it, that would make me a "self-made millionaire."
But I think any rational person would agree that I barely did shite to earn $1,000,000.

My point is the company would not have been as successful to this point if the person starting it was my sister. She absolutely used her platform to promote it and helped make it a success but that doesn't make her "self-made".
Had she made the products, found a way to mass produce, sold it, etc and built it; then yes she would be "self-made".

I know more children of fantastically wealthy people that spend their lives traveling and doing blow than I do that made something of themselves.
