Well that's a straw man. We're simply talking about the appropriate use of "self made."

No need to apologize for leveraging her family's fame to increase her wealth. But that's obviously what she did. I wouldn't put her in the "self made" category that is reserved for people who were unknown until they "made" themselves.

How was it a straw man? You were insinuating she shouldn’t be considered self made because she had advantages over others which helped in her making money

Well I would guarantee you and I also have some significant advantages over others

I have never claimed she would not be rich even if she did nothing. I have simply stated the fact her own self made her worth 900 million

Did others help? Of course. But I would question you to find anyone that literally didn’t use help along the way

I just sent a 100 bucks.

We really need to help this young lady become the first self-made billionaire.

Such an inspiration.

You started in on your politics and defending her right not to apologize. I didn't bring any of that up. That's the straw man, obviously.

Are you saying the only way you aren't self made is if you are just given money? I'd consider that a loose definition.

She's only self made if she started the gofundme herself, though. I think.

Yes

I mean are you and me not self made since our parents cared for us and gave us certain advtages over other children?

That’s a serious question. I’m assuming most in this thread would say none of us are self made

I would venture that most everything was handed to her on a silver platter

All she had to do.was say yes and associate her name, and later money, to a project

Other people made the money

Why do you think they chose her and not others though?

Most of us probably can't wake up and decide to slap our name on a cosmetic product and sell hundreds of millions of dollars worth of the stuff.

From what I've seen, the products were already good to go and the marketing basically ran itself due to the family's name. It was almost guaranteed to succeed.

Yes, I am self made, if you want to reach to apply that to middle/upper middle class people.

You keep trying to lump in her pre-made fame and success into general "advantages" like two parents and schooling. That's the only reference I'll make to that since it's stupid to do so.

Difference between having advantages and being handed multi-million dollar business opportunities because of your last name

if Paris Hilton was Paris Taylor, she would have been just another skank that rushed Phi Mu

Ok

What if you are handed 5 million and then turn it into 900 million?
