It’s slightly ironic that during Unplugged he talked about asking David Geffen to buy Leadbelly’s guitar for him for some crazy price.

I thought it was destroyed fairly quickly after his case was closed.

WAY overrated

I've always struggled with Nirvana. I've never really thought they were a great band, but what they did to break the excesses of late 80s music and get it back to a more real, raw, less produced, less perfect art can't be discredited. They just tapped into the zeitgeist and exploded but they were, in no way, even approaching the best bands to come out of the musical cauldron that was Seattle. They were just what the kids latched onto.

Alice in Chains, Mother Love Bone/Pearl Jam, and Soundgarden are three acts that were far better, and that's just the low hanging fruit.

Seattle in the late 80's/early 90's was this weird melting pot of bands where members flowed back and forth. Very similar to the Sunset Strip scene in the early to mid 80s with glam and hard rock. Bands constantly shuffling members around ended up with good recognizing good and tending to clump together to rise to the top. I 100% believe that if Andrew Wood didn't overdose, nobody would know the name Eddie Vedder. Mother Love Bone was right on the cusp of exploding when he OD'd and Pearl Jam formed out of the ashes.

Seems like the family could demand it back or have it destroyed.

Nirvana wasn't really part of that scene though. They ran in and were more associated with the K Records crowd in Olympia and Tacoma which was totally different than Seattle musically and aesthetically. Just one more reason they were uncomfortable being lumped in with bands they didn't have that much in common with.

That whole Sub-Pop sound was on fire for a while.

Tbh the melvins are maybe the most important band to come out of the PNW as far as influencing other musicians go.

That's true. I've never really been into them but it seems like every PNW band lists them as a major influence. You can hear it on Bleach most of all.

Also in the south..sludge metal was heavily influenced by the melvins. Acid Bath..hell even pantera.

From the start of the 1990s decade, music was so drastically different by the end. Seems like that hasnt happened since the new millennium.

I call bullshite on them not being as talented as other bands in that era.

Nirvana was incredibly talented. Dave has proven how elite of a musician he is by now, do not see how anyone could argue otherwise. Kurt while not the best singer of the era, he had an incredible, unique voice and showed decent guitar skills in some of the less popular songs. Novoselic was an underrated bassist as well. He was fantastic in their early albums.

They were a three man group and held their own with anyone besides Soundgarden. Pearl Jam to me is more overrated. They have produced shite for the last 15 years after their first three albums were great.

Wont be popular here but I only liked the song Jeremy, when it came out + the video was strong. Never could get into them beyond that, just wasnt for me.

Nirvana joins Tool and 311 as my 3 most overhyped bands of the 90's. The fact that people still attend 311 concerts floors me
