re: Krewe of Comus...How do you join? Who are the members?

Brother seriously you are about 100 years late on joining Comus, Momus, Rex or Proteus (the old line krewes. )

They are essentially social clubs for the old elites daughter’s debutantes. They are not really open to join no matter who you are. The super krewes are basically open join one of those instead.

Don’t get bent out of shape over it, I know a bunch of them and my daughter will be likely be invited to the ball her year and my blood is probably much bluer than 90% of them but I am not personally considered” old New Orleans” although some of my cousins are, etc so I am nit eligible to join so it’s not really anything to freak out over. They aren’t get invited to join my hunting club either. (Lol)

BTW, I debated this issue with one of the krewe guys in 70s, how they should extend a few new membership every year or so. He responded my clubs didn’t do that so why should they be forced too. Mobile is basically the same. It’s just their deal. If you have to ask you will never be invited. It’s memberships are mostly passed down through families although occasionally some blue blood from Boston or somewhere may get ask etc

It was a cause in Chevron leaving New Orleans in 70s etc which lead to the creation of the super krewes by Brennans and other business leaders.
