FWIW. They have tables for this stuff and it’s based on the farthest possible distance that a piece of debris could fly. It’s not the “blast zone” per se but the Danger Area. You say a half mile and people envision a half mile wide fireball. It’s not that. It’s an explosion and a piece of metal being propelled 600 or 800 yards then falling out of the sky and honking you on the noggin.

Who is gonna tell them?
I am pretty sure if we were metric this wouldn’t be an issue.
But then we would still have some yahoo that would say something dumb like this, “We expanded the search area from 500 meters to a half a kilometer.”

I got an alert on my phone but then no one mentioned it on Facebook so I just went about my day at home.

They have expanded the zone from a 3000 foot radius to a half of mile radius. Half mile = 2640 feet.

Seeing the evacuation order could be in place through tomorrow night.

What did they do, call in the bomb monitors instead of the bomb squad?

Just speculating but I’m guessing they are bringing in specialized equipment. I can’t imagine a box of dynamite going of at a scrap yard.

I read it was at a CMC Scrap Yard, some baw scraped some metal and forgot paw paw had his catfish bait in there. If it blew and couldn't imagine what several tons of scrap metal flying through air would be like when it landed.

I absolutely hate that this could be a coincidence and like the guy above said just some dumbass mistake, but I don’t know that a lot of people will see it that way. Probably Me included.
Even when the ATF/FBI report is released.
This decade sucks.
