Congeners (byproducts other than alcohol produced during fermentation) are what causes hangovers. As a general rule, go for clear alcohol such as vodka or gin.

The lower the sugar content - the better. That is why vodka/soda is a go-to.
I think you can drink pretty much whatever you want as long as you pace yourself. I only do shots bc I have a short attention span and either let ice melt in my drinks or I knock them over, etc... BUT I drink a tall glass of sprite mixed with water in between each shot. No hangovers here.

The trick when you're REALLY fricked up is to make yourself vomit before you go to sleep, then chug water... the only downside is that sometimes all that water + drunk sleep = piss the bed

I chug a lot of water, take three advil, and down one of those Emergen-C's with water before I go to sleep. I rarely have a hangover. I'm not sure which one helps but I go with all three to make sure.

Just mix whatever booze you're drinking with pedialyte. Some combos may taste like a butthole, but it's a great hangover defense.

I've yet to find any drink that doesn't give me a hangover if I consume more than a couple. 2-3 drinks is about my limit. Doesn't matter if I drink water, eat food, take medicine, or run a marathon. Anything more than 2-3 and I risk a debilitating headache and anxiety the following day.

If your drink of choice is beer, Guiness does not produce/provoke/precipitate hangovers, in my experience.
That ain't the case. Some of the worst hangovers I ever had were caused by drinking many pints of Guinness the night before.
