Have any of you ever bought a cheap knockoff watch ("tribute") because you liked the look if it- and then were almost ashamed that you halfway liked the damn thing?

I picked up a G Shock Mudmaster copy (after watching a review but the youtube gear guy Nut N fancy) for around $17- and it's not actually as bad as I thought it would be. I have other watches in different price ranges- but this isn't bad for a watch you won't worry about tearing up.

Any confessors?

An homage? No.

Epic's going to come along and say that if you change anything in the slightest, it's not an homage anymore.

Yeah, more or less. It doesn't do anything special at all...If you rip the band off on a vine in the woods, you'd throw it away and not care. Looks aren't too bad, though. Definitely lighter than the real thing.

This is it. Love the name the Chinese chose.

Figure of speech. lol

I'm a watch guy. I was just looking for something I could just bang around with and not cuss if the crystal got scratched to hell, or band broke off.

Here's the video I mentioned:

You bought a cheap knockoff of a already cheap itiem?

Edit: thought you were talking about a replica. Now I see that it's a homage.

Back in the day, when you could buy knock-off shite from guys with briefcases on the streets in New York, my old man got a Relex watch. That was over thirty years ago, he still has it, and it still works great.

One is a fake replica trying to be passed off as the real thing. Think, the $20 Rolexs available on Canal St.

A Homage looks similar but is slightly different and has a different brand name on the dial/case.

For Example Real thing.....

Homage

Some guy did a hilarious torture test involving placing it under a 2x4 and rolling over it with a Volvo diesel. The LCD on the inside no longer worked- but the analog worked fine. The band on the cheapo was actually tougher than the one on the Casio, which broke off.

Note: I'd wager if someone rolls over my arm with a Volvo- I won't give a shite about what watch I'm wearing.
