You have memories of that? I remember walking in with a quarter in my pocket, but not many memories of walking out.

This is impossible. I read somewhere on this site that ULL was by far the second best public university in the state only behind LSU...

No, no. They are BETTER than LSU. Truth be told, ULL (always be sure you say ULL and not UL - it pisses them off because they think they're the flagship) is the jealous wannabe little sibling.

ULL desperately needs a reality check. "Our College of Nursing and Allied Health Professions is the best in Louisiana." Really? They need to check the statistics. Tech is now #1, and has left them in the dust. And let's not get started on engineering and computer science.

Can you tell that I have relatives who believe that ULL is not only #1 in the state, but also believe they are on par with the best of the best?

Holidays get very entertaining when I have had too much to drink and they start their shite.

Edited to correct usage error.

I was there, Tech, from '94-'97 but not in a frat but were friends with some guys in KA and DKE. Man, those guys partied. Speaking of DKE, I had a guy from Delta Chi in my Business Law class and heard he had gotten shot at the DKE house for taking something from there, was leaving and was shot from behind by a DKE but didn't die there at the DKE house. He was on life support if I recall correctly and one of his frat brothers kept us up-to-date on his condition but he wasn't improving and his family eventually had him taken off.

I think the DKE that shot him was a son of an officer in Ruston but I don't recall the outcome of the incident. This happened some time in '95 or '96, I think. Kinda forgotten about it over the years.

I remember Ponchatoulas opened up while I was there and The Pickle Barrel (have a small and poster-sized menu somewhere packed away) and also remember the Brass Lantern pub opening up. They had all those imports where you can "Drink Around the World". Tech closing off the road in front of the student union and expanding an outdoor eating area along the bricked path with every graduate's name plus the clock tower.

I remember that incident. I'm pretty sure it was in 96. I was in High School at the time and lived just a block from were the incident happened. There was cops everywhere and I remember thinking what the hell happened. I found out the next day the details. It was a son of Ruston Police officer that shot the kid from Delta Chi. From what I remember the Delta Chi kid broke in the DKE house to steal something for a prank and was shot by the DKE kid thinking it was an intruder. It's crazy that you mention this incident. I haven't thought about in years until you brought it up. This was the only thing I could find from google concerning the incident 1996 shooting. The link states it happened on 4/19/96. I don't think the shooter served any jail time. The area were the DKE fraternity house use to be is now apartment housing for Tech students. The old Delta Chi house has been torn down but they built a new house in the same location. The two fraternities were located next to each other with only a street separating them.

Before the road was closed off and paved with brick, there used to be a billboard at the SE corner of Howard Hall. Sometimes around '82 a guy from NLU tried to blow up the billboard with a stick of dynamite but was caught in time. Never heard what came of him- anyone?

The rivalry with NLU was intense back then.

Sorority girl got ran over and killed few years ago at rabbs.
I knew the kid that did it. Drunk leaving the place, all cars had to park lined up all down the road, actually very unsafe.

He left scene.
Cops looked for him, he shot himself.

Sad deal for everyone involved.

My second quarter there I lived across and a little down the street from TKE and watched them burn their house down in it's entirety.

They tried to burn notebooks in the fireplace. I went pick up a Johnnys Pizza and on the way back saw one of them baws on the roof with a hose. 1 hour later there was nothing but embers and a metal staircase remaining.

While it was burning they had a guy passed out in his room. Luckily his door connected to the outside on the second floor. His frat brothers were taking turns throwing their shoulders into the door to try and break it down until finally they got it down and dragged their very confused friend away.

Only one person got hurt. A fireman was on the second story balcony when the roof collapsed and the explosion knocked him off onto his back.

So what was the outcome of those dumbasses burning down their house? They built a bigger and better one on the same spot of course.

Also. During the same time period, the sigma nus lived directly across. They had a Jersey shore party one night and I watched 2 wasted Snookies duke it out on the street. Good times.

Oh, wow. Glad someone remembered it and you lived not far from it. I didn't know that DKE kid but another one but I can't recall if he had graduated. Yeah, I kinda remember it was a little cool weather at the time it happened. An empty seat in class was a constant reminder during the quarter. So, no jail time for the DKE kid?

As you've said, I remember the two houses were next to each other separated by a street that ran parallel to the houses and the houses faced Everett St, I think (could be wrong). Majority of my classes were in CAB (College of Administration and Business) which the front faced Railroad Ave. so it was a short distance to the houses. Just had to cross this bridge to get there:

I had looked on Street View last night and a lot has changed since then. I felt a little lost. Even CAB is no longer there.

Thanks for chiming in on the event.
