Higher prices is on purpose. They want to keep it highbrow to cater to a certain clientele. And keep the riffraff out. Some people will pay more not to have to shop next to people in pajamas.

Publix does sell garbage beef. Here in OTM Birmingham I usually get my steaks from the Piggly Wigglys in Crestline or Liberty Park area.

Jesus, did it come with a golden rim and come in a a collectible glass bottle.

I know we complain about Rouses prices and quality, but based on some of these posts Rouses ought to beat the crap out of Publix on prices.

Publix doesnt even try to hide it any more. We went two blocks down to the Walmart super market here in Sarasota, which is very nice for a walmart, and got it for less than half that if I remember. An Avocados for under a buck each. I didnt want to drive over to the farmers market place just for that.

Publix is out of control but like someone posted, there are a lot of wealthy people who live around me and they are willing to pay the higher prices. Im not

Excellent analysis, but I am disappoint that no mention of:

1) Pub subs
2) Fried chicken
3) The freezer cases where the lights are off until you walk down the aisle

ETA: the Publix right by us is really expensive so we'll drive further to go to The Teets.

I remember Rouses had a deal where they got Haas to send over few extra avocados to one of the New Orleans stores where they made one of the world’s largest avocado displays in 2019.

They were even running a special 3 for a dollar.

Every Publix around here has a 2 piece fried chicken meal with 2 sides for $6.99. It is not advertised and the chicken beats KFC and Popeyes. It is about the only thing in there that is priced right. Same thing with 1 side at Popeyes is $11 but that includes a drank.

To be fair, most chicken joints are good in the early days.

I was eating Kentucky Fried Chicken back in the 60's when the Colonel himself came over to the house and cooked it with the herbs and spices already in our kitchen. He said these were in pretty much any kitchen in the South, and I tend to believe it.

My love affair with Popeye's may not be so personal but in the early days that was some mighty good fried chicken.

Let corporate Merica take over and pretty sure most any good eats goes to crap over time when $$$$ is the driving force over quality and service.

Support you local joints in the hope that good eatin and real service mack a comeback.

He has his hands on the pulse of America's shopping markets.

Has he done a YouTube News report on the Iran war yet? He needs to broaden his offerings.
