My family has been in south Louisiana since the early 1700s. I am quite proud of my family name. As the only son of an only son, I have two sons and one grandson. I am glad my family line will continue.

Too bad (for you) that you aren't.

I have 2 and wish I had more. There is no way to explain it to people like you. Your list is very superficial and is mostly built on money.

Your wife is lying to you and herself. She might feel this way now, but wait until she hits 35 she will become insufferable because she didn't have kids. She will feel empty and unfulfilled and she will want kids. Her risks will be greater than it is now, plus she will lucky to get pregnant as she gets older.

If she does then have fun with their friends asking them why their grandpaw is picking them up from 7th grade.

Please don't have kids, you and your wife deserve the misery you will endure.

Force her hand and see just how much she doesn't want kids . Tell her to go ahead and get a hysterectomy. Your get your answer.

You hit the nail on the head. Materialistic, superficial people see the world in the accumulation of wealth and trivial things. The world is very superficial to narcissists.

It's infuriating. I love my dog, but anyone who has had a sick/injured dog has had the internal thought process "what is the dollar amount I'm no longer willing to pay to save this family member."

No sane person would have that same thought about their child.

I don't get why child-free people have to justify their superiority to parents. I guess they get it from the other side.

Insecurity, the same reason people crow about many things.

While I gives kudos to folks with kids, the "you'll never be fulfilled" fear mongering from those with them is a bit silly.

You married someone and you do not want kids?

You and your wife should just swing.

Love my kids; However, if you don't - don't have them and don't expect people to pay for your contraception, abortions, or adoptions either.

Before I had a child, I couldn't understand it either. But now that I do have a child, I care about that child more than anyone or anything else on the planet. I honestly care about that child more than any other human period. So, to each their own, but I wouldn't trade having a child for the world.

Having kids is like going to college. People were told that everyone should do it, but neither are necessarily for everyone.

I mean, I graduated from college and have kids, because I am normal, well adjusted, and wanted a good and full life, but everyone has their own path to travel.

If I'm at work and get a call about a dog, I'll get to it as soon as I get home. If I'm at work and get a call about something bad happening to one of my kids, I'm dropping what I'm doing right there and speeding to wherever they are.
