My Gf's 5 year old cousin does it. I love it, I think it's hilarious. Kid knows he's being an a-hole when he does it too, which is why I'm amused by it.

My BILs entire family does this. Its weird hearing his 7 year old little brother calling his dad Tom and mom Julie

I did it randomly from time to time as a kid for my mom. Wasn't a big deal as Mom is my go-to name for her even to this day.
I do remember telling a story to my Grandma one day and referred to my father by his first name by accident. As soon as it came out she developed this look on her face that appeared as though she was ready to slap me, but instead politely informed me to never use that name again
I think I was like 21 when that happened.

Not in my family, but to each its own. I even call some cousins "Aunt" or "Uncle" depending on their age.

Ever tried yelling "HEY MOM!" in Disney world... half the park turns around.
I'll only say their first names if we are in a crowd of parents or if they don't respond to mom/dad the first 2 times.

I'm 30 and I still say Mom and Dad. The only time I use their first names is when I need to get their attention and they aren't responding.

This is how I was. if i was at home or something I called my mom mom. but we always played travel sports and stuff where there were 100s of moms around so I called her by her name a lot. She was cool with it.

My dad punished my brother when he was like 5 yrs old. My brother told him, "you're not my daddy anymore"

It doesn't seem disrespectful...just odd. I can't imagine calling my folks by their names.

No, still my parents and have the utmost respect. Actually do both really, but first name mostly. It just became not that big of a deal after we left home. Very traditional family also, and I am almost 40 so not a modern parenting thing.
We are yes sir no sir folks, but I am not sure it makes a difference either way. As long as the kid knows who is the superior.
