Kidney Failure, unknown cause. Dialysis in future.

I had a for injury and it took forever to recover. In the months of recovery I felt really weak. I would get winded at the gym and ask of a sudden stairs became an issue. Even though I was dieting and eating healthy I had no energy. The last two weeks I've been moving like a snail. Trouble doing anything.
So I go see my doctor. Take some blood tests and think nothing of it. My blood pressure is finally under control so all seemed like it was improving.
Then the doctor calls me and says to go to the ER right away I'm renal failure.
Been in hospital two days. Kidneys at 5%.
Getting catheter installed tomorrow and my life I of dialysis hell will begin. I'm only 43. Not looking forward to this. Silver lining is I have 4 people offering their kidney.
Still that's down the line.
I'm not sure I want to do it. I may just say F it and deal with having the weak kidney. I don't want to do this.
But I'm curious to hear from anyone here with experience. It's a large forum so I'm sure some of y'all do dialysis.
A few years ago I had said I would just go on hospice if I ever needed dialysis. Obviously my thoughts have changed.
I'm mostly bummed that I just joined a country club to go swimming over the summer then this happens.
I wonder if I can still swim.

Just keep your catheter covered and you should be fine to do whatever exercising you want to do.

That's tough.

Are you diabetic?
I take Milk Thistle daily. It helps your liver and kidney functions and can prevent gallbladder issues. Everyone in my family has had gallbladder issues so I am trying not to have the same.

One of my employees (49) had something similar happen. After about a year of dialysis she had a kidney transplant and it has changed her life in such a positive way. She feels better than she did in years. Do it, it's well worth the procedure.

Man I’m so sorry.
I hope you’re able to get a donor kidney soon.

Started 2.5 years of peritoneal dialysis at age 40, now 6 years post transplant. If you’ve already got offers for a live donor transplant that’s the best news of all. Assuming you have no issues that prevent transplant then you won’t have a long wait to get it done. If you’re doing PD, it’s not that bad (dialysis doesn’t hurt), but you have to be very disciplined and not screw around with the diet and daily machine procedures. You’ll actually probably feel a LOT better once you start. You won’t be able to go swimming unfortunately, but it’s essential that you keep exercising. It’s not a death sentence, especially with offers for donation. If I can answer any questions please send me an email: mceuph75@gmail.com
Wishing you the very best!

Get the transplant. You are young and there are plenty of folks on here depending on you for repair advice. Seriously you should get it. A new kidney will make you feel like a new man.

My dad is in the ICU intubated right now, he’s been on dialysis for over 2 years. He’s in the ICU because he collapsed at home and couldn’t breathe. They think he has aspirated pneumonia.
I can tell you he hated dialysis, he got set up to do it at home which has been terrible for him. Go to a clinic and do it, don’t do it at home. He’s constantly in and out of the hospital because of fluid building up in his lungs from him either procrastinating dialysis bc he hates or it bc they keep getting his dry weight wrong. His machine doesn’t work right half the time, I’m constantly over there helping swap parts out on it & they’re constantly calling the 1800 number trying to get the damn thing to work
Prayers for my dad y’all
Edit: the brand name on the machine is nx stage

Take the kidney. You may be matched quickly. You are obviously loved and would be missed. Look for support groups online. Don't give up.

I don't see why you wouldn't be able to swim. A close family friend swam while on dialysis. His doctor said he could do it if he felt up to it. He had to cover the catheter and immobilize it with tape to keep it from getting wet. He was told that the healthier a person is, the longer they can delay a transplant.

I’m not sure, I’ll check and report back. I guess it does seem better if your machine is reliable & if you have the discipline to do it. My dad just hates it so much he always says I’ll do it tomorrow, and that’s landed him in the hospital multiple times.

Stout, what milk thistle are you taking? My wife has been looking at it for gall bladder issues.
