That kid is just going to get bullied more after he shared that video.

Edit: Why was the film even put out there?

Yeah, he goes to Camp Glisson each summer. He also does Young Scholars and this summer he has Band Camp (do NOT insert Alyson Hanigan joke here as he is only 12). So as he’s gotten older he’s added more stuff to do in the summer.

There is some parent here who has or knows someone with a kid like this. Forget everything you know about UFC. That is not reality. Getting your kid involved in MMA/BJJ is the best thing you can ever do to build character and confidence.

I try to make sure my kids understand this. In our old neighborhood there was a boy very similar to the kid in the OP, he would come to the door daily and ask for my older boy. He was a pretty odd kid and had zero coordination, my kid only likes to play sports or do physical activities. I insisted my son be nice, and he is a nice kid, but they had zero in common. Over the years the boy just hung around the fringes of the kids at the house, but he seemed happy to just be there, and could drink the shite out of some Capri Suns.

But to have the courage to ring that doorbell and ask for someone to play with is amazing. The kid moved away. I hope he is doing well.

There are more kids like this than we think I bet.

I think this is a good idea too, mainly because he would be surrounded by kids that are under the command of a person preaching discipline and kindness and acceptance of all. There are many avenues for this, band, choir, sports, drama, church groups. The right outside influence from a caring adult can do wonders.

Kids will listen to a coach or leader sometimes when they wont listen to the parent.

I feel bad for the kid obviously, but I would be lying if I said that kid would not get bullied when I was growing up. And it would make it worse if people heard he went around asking for friends and saying he loves 2 year olds...

I know its a shame, but its the truth. But he is a big kid, he would just have to learn how to fight back and then he would be okay.

That video broke my heart. I can feel that poor boys pain. And have felt it for most of my 65 years.

He looks like he would give anything for someone to care about him in a sincere way. But he is just a “ misfit “ to the world. I have always felt that way.

I wish I could take him fishing or something. Although he probably would not like me.

I almost never reply but i actually liked your post.

It’s funny that sometimes that first step, regardless of how much anxiety it brings a person is that major step out on a limb.

And i have always wanted to believe that the ability to step out like that and go into something like basically blind takes a tremendous amount of courage so you are right, that kid has something just might not have the ability to see it in himself yet

Having spent almost 40% of my first ten years in hospitals, I never had friends that were my age. I couldn't relate to them; I was delayed in almost every facet. Everytime I thought I made a friend, we either moved, or I had to go to the hospital, only to be forgotten about. I had one friend who was 62 years old (I was age 5). He died when I was 12 of complications from diabetes (he was a very heavy man). Most of my friends growing up and even now were/are 30-50 years older than I. I have no friends from HS, although I have a couple from college. I felt lonely, and weird, but I realized that I could only relate to older people. In HS, my best friend was our youth pastor (he died two years ago). I have learned to make it alone, but I am friendly with just about everyone, and I do not have enemies.

Always look after the strays. They probably don't have much going for them at home.

Kids and dogs always tug on my heart strings.

We teach this to our kids, and also teach them to stick up for other kids that might get bullied. My oldest (8) is pretty well liked by all kids. I've seen him go out of his way to encourage some kids on his sports teams that are having a tough time. My wife and I let him know how much of an impact simply being nice someone, can make on another person's entire life.

I did this in school, and still maintain touch with a couple of those kids all these years later. Most of the guys I ran with were the same way.

That kid badly needs a big brother or father figure in his life...Sad to see this- but it undoubtedly plays out a lot.

We all are, some just pretend better than others.

The real world is pretty insane. You have to conform to fit in, and that eliminates most free thinkers.
