thread is stupid.

the magic number is your BMR (basal metabolic rate)

if its 2000/day, eat less than 2000 calories per day and you will LOSE weight (BMR goes down as you lose weight, so you will have to adjust your calorie intact if you plateau because you've matched your new BMR with your new daily intake.)

3500 calories = 1 pound so if you eat 1800/day and your BMR is 2000, it will take roughly 2 1/2 weeks to drop a pound.

obviously the faster you get into a 3500 calorie deficiet, the faster the weight comes off but anything TOO radical will likely cause burn out.

why do you think the 24 hour fasts are so effective? its because you gave your body a FREE bonus deficit of roughly 2000 calories to add to whatever you're already doing to reach that magic 3500.

all calories are not created equal; ketogenic diet starves your body of carbs so it burns fat instead for energy, this is a scientific fact even if its not politically popular.

ANYONE will lose weight if they consume below their BMR, however its far easier (and way more satisfying and easier to kill the fat) by adopting a low carb/ketogenic mindset.

but carry on little debbie fans.

What Rocket is not saying is that most of the time he has to eat very healthy and watches his macros very closely, and a couple of times a week he is capable of eating something traditionally considered bad for you because the rest of his diet is on point and he reserves some of his macronutrients for shitty food, like pop tarts.

Don't mistake his trolling of 'LOL I EAT shite FOODS AND STAY RIPPED KETOFAGS' to mean that he eats nothing but sushi, poptars, and burger king. That's a common misconception of IIFYM and an easy trap to fall into.

I explain it like this. If I eat more calories than I burn, no matter the source, I gain weight.

If I eat less, I lose weight.

A ketogenic diet makes it a lot easier for me to eat below maintenance, so a a ketogenic diet is a livable and even enjoyable way of eating that helps me accomplish my goals of losing weight.

I've come on here plenty of times and talked about my hot n spicy mcchicken diet. I've lost weight on that plenty of times... Basically eating only hot n spicy mcchickens for lunch and dinner.

I had a very physical job once and I lost 30 lbs in 2 months and all I ate for lunch was McDonald's, taco bell, or pizza and donuts from a gas station as they were the only places open at lunch (3rd shift).

Basically my job was to hang parts on a line. 2,000 in an 8 hour shift. The parts weighed between 20 and 160 lbs. Average was probably 40 lbs.

What were you eating for lunch before the physical job though?

Mostly fast food. I physically couldn't eat enough calories to prevent a deficit.

Went from 215 to 185 in 2 months. Then I was reassigned for a few months and when I came back to that job I lost another 10 lbs in a month and leveled out there.

I'm 5'11" btw.

exactly, Rocket watches his macros closely. he just saves some to eat what he wants.

bottom line is keto works. Now it mainly works because its harder to eat enough calories this away. But you can very slightly by pass the laws of thermo on a keto diet because of the mechanisms it uses to burn fat. But only slightly, like 250 cals max.

the problem is so many on here refuse to lift weights or they yo yo diet. They yo yo because they go on diets like the keto diet and dont ever learn how to eat balanced and they fall off the wagon and binge the frick out.

Hulklogan, you are a perfect example of this. You have been trying to lose the weight forever. If you would have just did the IIFYM approach and stuck to it, you would be much further along.

also if you don't track calories and you do go over on cals, you don't know. If you don't know its hard to make sure you get enough cardio/lifting in to offset the energy balance.

the reason Rocket and myself always recommend iifym with some type of intermittent fasting is because it allows for flexibility and not having to eat like a bird.

but honestly the program we both like the best is leangains. leangains uses the 16/8 form of IF along with small deficits combined with carb cycling and carb back loading. So it allows the best of all worlds by allowing flexibility when it comes to the foods as long as the macros are met and the macros timed according to the diet. It is much easier for people to follow and in the long run has many health benifits.

Look I am all for keto, I use it all the time for quick body recomp but of the people on here suck at using it. Its evident by them always saying they need to lose more and by the total weight loss they achieve over time. The diet is only good if you stick to it and most seem to come off of it and binge. If thats the type of approach you are going to take then keto is not right for you.

If you want to binge and can only stay low carb a few days before going crazy try lyle mcdonald's ultimate diet 2.0 or dan duchaine's body opus diet or ultimate diet 1.0.

Why do you keep saying this? I have lost over 35 lbs (a small plate) since November. Going from 215 to 178. My legs and even arms are bigger, but everything else is much smaller.

So do I suck at utilizing this way of eating?

im not speaking of you. im speaking of the people that do exactly what you are speaking of but don't lift and are still skinny fat. Most people do not get the results you are talking about because they don't lift and never have refeed days and don't understand how to transition to a balanced diet. or they fall of the wagon and go on a binge for days,

but hulklogan is an example I am speaking of. He been trying keto on and off for like a two years and has only lost like 30lbs and is still big.

he would be much better off just going on something he can stick to.

Few questions:

1. Are you working out?
2. Were you working out before?
3. What kind of deficit/surplus?
4. How did you measure your maintenance?

Sorry, I meant IF, not Keto

Leangains- Google it is a form of IF which is basically just an eating pattern.

You eat all of your calories in an 8 hour window which you can set to your schedule. Now people mostly use it on a cut, but it can work while bulking too.

I'm drastically simplifying this but in theory your body is using energy from fat stores near the end of your fast. When you eat heavy after a workout (typically largest meal of day) you're replenishing glycogen and not just eating because "it's time for lunch". You can restrict your window to anything but 8 hours is acceptable.

Honestly, many folks would do fine on a Daily Plate log, some other log in their phone, or even better - and actual, physical log in a small notebook.

The principle is: You can eat whatever you want, as long as you are meticulous about writing down what it is and the amount.

The psychology of that food log building during the day allows your mind to click: "Okay. I've had enough food to eat today."

Because the ludicrous notion that there is any place in the United States - where people live - that has a lack of availability of food. The exact opposite is true. We're drowning in food sources and it is literally killing us.
