Kennabrah Police are notorious for their overzealous enforcement of minor traffic laws.. dont say you weren’t warned .

Thanks for all the info guys! Aside from dinner, our group usually just hangs around the hotels, our kids are 9-12, so they aren't old enough to run unsupervised.

There is a reason that Kenna is known as ‘Chal-Metairie’…. It is also known as KennaWhat? Due to the roar of jet engines .

There is a hotel at the Ponchatrain Center. Looks good to me. People stay there for center events. Unless anything has changed. Good luck at the competition! Those days were fun. For local food there, Kenner Seafood, Harbor Seafood, Little Chinatown are all close. The latter 2 on same street as the center.

What's ironic about the whole "Kenna Brah" thing is no one living in Kenner says that. Only people living outside do. Especially the Metry people.

Correct .. although it isnt ‘irony’.. it’s that no one who lives in Kenna has a sense of humor about the place .

A group of us will be traveling to Kenner,LA early next year for a cheer competition at the Ponchetrain Center. I know nothing about the area, can any of you give a recommendation on where to stay, and where to avoid. Thanks in advance.

Kenner is overall pretty safe as is the surrounding area of Metairie. Plenty of places locally to eat as well.

Lol. It has changed over the years. But still safe bc good law enforcement. No I don’t live there, but used to years ago. Some good places to eat and Rivertown, too. But that’s it.

OP, Ground Patti is in Rivertown. That’s at the other end of Williams from the center. You’d drive straight to it opposite direction till the road ends and you are in Rivertown. Great burgers, apps, ribs, drinks, etc.

Stay at the hotel next to the Pontchartrain Center, it is a Hilton Garden Inn. I stay there for my Mardi Gras ball.

Marriott on Causeway at the lake is a nicer hotel in Metry.

Doubletree at Williams and Veterans is fine.

Hilton Garden Inn at the Pontchartrain Center is fine as well.

Those all keep you within 5-15 mins depending upon traffic. Most of the restaurant recommendations provided are all very good options, especially with kids. For Mexican, go to Casa Garcia on Veterans. It’s been there forever.

I think there is a hotel right next to it. I had to stay at La Quinta down the road for about a week once. Not that nice but doable.

Thanks Again!! Looks like we are going with the Hilton Garden Inn due to its close proximity to the venue.

The Hilton Garden connected to the Pontchartrain Center will be your best bet. You will also be a quick walk away from Coconut Beach where the kids can run around a play in the sand, play some beach volleyball, have decent beer selection, and good bar food (at least that was the case about 10 years ago)

I would stay in Metairie which gives you quick access to Kenner and New Orleans.

Staying in Metairie vs Kenner? What does it matter, if someone didn't know the boundaries, they'd have no idea where one starts and the other ends.

Its the suburbs and that is on the lake, Kenner is very safe.

I wouldn't stay in Kenner, its not like there are amazing hotels or anything. I'd probably stay in Metairie or something.
