The people who don’t like it can move out and Kenner can return to greatness brah.

So... 24 hours and this is the best he could come up with? He just dug his hole 10 feet deeper.

quote:

My internal memo draws the line on letting companies profit from taxpayers by espousing political beliefs. My decision disallowing Nike from profiting from our taxpayers while they are using their powerful voice as a political tool is my message. This government will not let taxpayer dollars be used to promote a company’s or individual’s political position, platform or principle. That’s my position as a matter of fairness to all."

So by that measure, he will ban the city from doing business with any company that makes campaign contributions, right? Since the Supreme court has said campaign contributions are "political speech" which is protected speech.

I would imagine the list of companies he will have soon banned, is going to be pretty long!!

Kenner rec dept also does arts and crafts. Is he going to ban the city from doing business with Hobby Lobby?

Which is a poor use of taxpayer funds, but I don't live in Kenner, so my opinion is irrelevant.

You can get similar stuff for cheaper without a swoosh on it.

Hell my youth soccer club used some company I've never heard of or seen anywhere. Made no diff, the jesery, shorts and socks all fit like they should. The bags we got worked like any of the Adidas or Nike team bags I've seen.

ot really.

1) I’d say most of Nike’s sales every year spike at the beginning of football season.
2) this Nike backing kneelers stuff started what, 2-3 weeks ago? Hardly enough time to see the damage their decision may or may not have caused.

But don’t let rationale thought get in the way of whatever you are trying to prove.

Yeah, NFL shops across the country full of Nike products have been raking in big money since the preseason started.

He sounded really stupid in that press conference. Rolled firefighters into it and couldn't answer any of the questions.

I guess he couldn’t see into his crystal ball to see Nike was gonna hitch it’s cart to the flag kneeler.

I originally thought this was stupid but how can anyone disagree with this policy? Nike went political and he doesn't want to implicitly fund a politically divisive message with taxpayers' money. Seems reasonable to me.

Decent point but political contributions are not the same as advertising.

You are right. Only one involves paying off politicians.

Remind me in six months to see if this guy got any contributions from Nike... or from any other athletic gear company.
