What am I missing. I keep hearing the One BTR people saying they are keeping Baton Rouge together, or they are in favor of keeping Baton Rouge together. The St. George movement does not affect the incorporated area of Baton Rouge. If St. George happens, the incorporated area will not change, so what are they trying to keep together? Is it BR's plan to incorporate the rest of the unincorporated areas and St. George is in their way to doing that? I ask this because several years ago they had a chance to incorporate everything and they only chose a few businesses and the Mall. Why didn't they incorporate everything then and keep it together then?

I don't know if it is or it isn't, just trying to understand what is being "Kept Together" if St. George does not happen.

“Together BR” means they want to keep the parish’s money together in the city of BR’s coffers.

"One Baton Rouge"

"Better Together"

"Together Baton Rouge"

My response: I don't recall anyone circulating a petition for SBR/St. George to secede from EBR into Ascension or Iberville.

Although...I would ABSOLUTELY sign such a petition.

A prevailing perception at the time was that incorporating more neighborhoods could potentially dilute the voting power for blacks.

If that is so, diluting the black vote, why are the only people I see against St. G are white Magnet School parents? Well and I guess some black politicians. I thought I saw where the NAACP wanted to isolate BR into a city and remove the President part of Mayor/president similar to what Livingston and Ascension does.

It makes no sense to you because the current form of government makes no sense.

The City of BR and the parish of East Baton Rouge are tied together because of the metro government.

Further, certain parish-collected taxes collected inside city limits stay with that city government. Otherwise, they go to the parish, which is co-mingled with the City of BR.

So, City of St George will end up keeping certain taxes collected inside its' borders, which means they won't flow to the Parish of EBR, meaning, they won't be co-mingled with the City of BR.

What the TBR group doesn't tell you is while their tax income for the combined metro government will be going down, their expenses will be going down as well. Because while St George will get that money, they also have to pay certain expenses now that the parish was paying for previously.

These people can't even come together to use the same slogan. Its a shame that the good neighborhoods in the city limits have to put up with the rest of the mess. Its hard to find a more worthless group of people than Mayor Broome and her staff.

After St. George happens the next step is to combine parts of Iberville and Ascension to create a new parish. This will finally allow the good people of the area to have a public school system representative of its people and run efficiently and effectively with complete scrutiny.

Also, it forces BR, IP and AP to accept the bed they made.

The St. George area of EBRP tried to set up its own school district similar to Zachary and Central but couldn't get it through the legislature due resistance because not being a separate incorporated area of EBRP. Thus, the drive to incorporate as its own city began.

Better Together is just a disinformation campaign with threat that EBRP schools will have to do away with Magnet and Gifted/Talented schools if they lose those students. That doesn't have to happen just a scare tactic

Although they are the loudest part of the opposition, they are the smallest most insignificant part. The power brokers in EBR like Richard Lipsey, Bernhardt, BRAC, BRAF. Those are the ones to worry about.

Also that the C-P is in debt up to its eyeballs on the pension system, and the problem gets worse each year.
