Hearing from different cities-
Houma, Lafayette , New Orleans, Jefferson Parish Main Campus
Different sectors - Cardiology groups, Radiology groups, Admins at VA, Anesthesia personnel, mid level nurse managers
Hard to believe no fire with this much smoke.

The only issue would be the fact that Kaiser is vertically integrated, meaning that they own the insurance side also. It’s a closed system.
Oh I can tell you what will happen. You will be told what Drs are available to you, you'll have to go with their networked provider local to you (good or bad) and if you object, very limited out of network coverage.
People are going to lose their ability for second opinions outside their approved choices or it's cash pay. Few have that ability.
The margins are so well managed by Kaiser because as it's said, they're vertically integrated. That means your choices are inherently limited.
If you're the type who will go where you're told and you're OK with limited choice, you may love it.
Keep in mind, there is no PPO option with this. I think my last policy was like 10-20% out of network pay. You travel a lot...you're up a creek.
Edit: I checked their plans. I don't see any out of network option, so I must have been mistaken. It's KP or nothing.

The MD Anderson partnership is more of a “hey Ochsner, you can pay us a bunch of money and say you’re a partner of ours”. EJ once had that arrangement and did not renew.

This sounds like exactly what is needed! A tax-paying system taking over a money grubbing non-tax paying entity!
Kaiser is dog shite. No matter how bad you think oschner, Kaiser is worse.

I avoid the Oschner System like the plague.
Unfortunately, there are few options available to us.

Warner Thomas was there for 28 years and was CEO for last ten. Left in 2022. They have new leadership. Just curious about why possibly being acquired
Ochsner has a very checked past from it's beginnings. Only way it will merge is if it benefits agencies in our government that we rarely get information from.

Warner Thomas just padded his resume with false growth through acquisitions. He eventually got the job he was looking for and bailed on them with all this debt they have to pay.

Keep hearing rumblings from different cities and sectors. Any baws with more intimate knowledge please chime in.
Generally, these sort of discussions are always occurring. Who's buying who, who's up for sale...it's the job of the board to hear and discuss these things. By the time these rumblings hit the point of care personnel they'e been distorted, twisted and butchered worse than a fat hog.

Do you realize there is an entire medical specialty devoted to reading MRIs?
I do realize this. And by reading I mean he couldn't read the results that were sent....not looking at the actual mri.

Ochsner is becoming Tulane, when Tulane started turning into a shithole.
Now Tulane is making a comeback while ochsner goes down

Let's hope pain management Dr isn't reading an MRI. Can't see how you would want this.
I'm talking about the actual results... not looking at the mri itself. If he ordered an mri he should then be able to read the results of it... or at least tell me that he can't read the results and send me to an orthopedic.

The reason KP wants to get involved is as someone who controls the total funds flow from premium to spend they have control. Louisiana’s Medicare population is growing and the Ochsner network has a below average risk score based on their Medicare Shared Savings performance. I am not saying it would be a slam dunk but the economics behind it are interesting and the margins they could make on the Northshore would be solid.

They tried to get too big too fast. They didn’t seem to budget their COVID money very well. How are you gonna expand all over the state then have to fire 3% of your staff.

That is not true at all. MD Anderson has already elevated the standard of care in the MD Anderson Ochshner clinics. I guarantee that the #1 cancer center in the world is not going to risk a hit to their reputation for a money grab. That relationship has been in the works for 3+ years.

How? When you’re 20 percent over staffed it’s easy to cut 3 percent.

100%. They are doing EVERYTHING to cut costs. It’s to the point of negatively impacting patient health and safety.

I just checked our benefits book with KP.
Because I'm live outside of their service territory, I have access to a PPO Plus plan which has in-network and out-of-network options. I will say, the in-network option is pretty large. I've only had one doctor that was not in the network, and it wasn't a huge deal for me. It was my ENT, and he took over my records after my prior ENT retired. I had actually never even met or seen that doc. So I just found a new one.
For our in-area employees, they have three options.
1) A KP only plan with no out of KP options except for emergencies when out of town
2) A KP only plan that is a high deductible plan, with no out of KP options except for emergencies when out of town
3) A three-tier plan that includes KP only (lowest copays), a POS in-network (higher co-pays), and a out of network plan (high deductible type).
The first two options have no employee premium cost (The hDHP plan makes a monthly employee contribution in the amount of the savings in premium of the HDHP plan vs the first plan). The third one cost $60/month for employee-only coverae. But even if you have family coverage, the third option is only $150/month more than the first option.

My wife is pretty high up for Oschner. There is nothing that they are hearing about being acquired.
There have been changes but leadership has been stabilizing and getting back better. They cut a lot of the bad leaderships (C-suites)
Plus there is a lot of red tap for a for profit to acquire a not for profit.

I heard their leadership is bending the ear of politicians to bring back mask mandates which also require face shields and pushing for employees to get triple boosted
