I don't talk religion with people I like and, personally, I don't care.

I respect that they believe in the eternal condemnation, but I don't want my children living under that fear. It is, in my personal belief system, irrational. You are right about exposing them to both sides though. If there is a both sides. haha

Really? Because I'm a Christian and don't find anything about it to be in conflict with my views.

Well then you have a very loose interpretation of the Bible. Especially Genesis.

So.... if your parents continue to go against your wishes and push it on them, don't let them have contact. That's the only way to avoid it. You're the parent. Not them.

How about not pressuring them either way, and let them figure it out for themselves.

If they end up being atheists, theists, agnostics, it'll be their own decision.

Let me guess. You think all Christians shouldn't believe in evolution or the big bang? Sorry but I'm not the moron you paint most Christians to be in your head.

I don't regret my time in religion and don't begrudge my parents for raising me that way. They know what I believe now and it just doesn't cause any tension really.

If you want to keep the thread from getting whacked you need to change the thread title

Change it to "Coming out and telling your family you love to suck dicks, and have the biggest cocks shoved up your a-hole", because that's okay

but religion is bad

Easier said than done. I want my childen to have a relationship with my folks, as they are truly amazing people. They also deserve to see their grandbaby, she is the apple of their eye and I couldn't imagine taking that away from them. It's much more complicated than you suppose.

The Big Bang theory was first proposed by a Catholic priest, but don't let logic get in the way.

All Christians believe the bible word for word.

I read that in the bible.

I don't even believe in all this stuff and holier than thou atheists get on my nerves more than the religious.

At least the religious aren't fricking smug about it.

Just serve me my coffee and shut the hell up.

No I think all Christians should believe in those things... if being Christian was just about believing in the Golden Rule and that Jesus was the Son of God that created the universe then I might could even be a Christian. But it's really not, now is it. Unless you start throwing out many things that the Bible says... which kinda makes ya question the whole thing.

Nor do we tell others they believe in fairy tales.

Or call them morons without brains, or brainwashed sheep.
